I've got a '92 D-250 with play in the steering. It is in the "square box" that is fastened to the top of the steering box. Does anyone know what size the splined shaft is on the steering box? I'll get me a u-joint to fit on the box and make me up a shaft to attach at the original steering shaft just above the steering box. I have resources for the u-joint if I can come up with the size. . Thank you.....

3d Borgeson already makes what you are looking for. try them the replacement part is pricey but worth every penny if your time is worth money and you value your safety.

I have a 91 and plan on replaceing mine in the next few months, even though it is still tight.

I work for Torrington Co and we manufacture the I shafts for the 2nd gen vehicles, but never made the 1st gen parts so I don't know for sure the connection geometry. (my guess is 3/4 -36 tooth involute spline at the gearbox).

I have asked our resident engineer in Detroit to get a print if he can of the 91s.

If you can wait a few days, I will share this information with you.

My plan is to design ( that is my job as an engineer anyway) and make a replacement using our latest and greatest design features. But that won't be for a few months yet.

Borgeson's web site address is below if you prefer to go that way... . $190 I believe. They do make a nice replacement product and they are nice folks.

3/4 36 is correct but they want way too much for the dang shaft. I put one on my brother's truck and it works great but it was $400 CDN anyways replace stock joint with new one put in synthetic grease and put cv boot or old inner tube around it and zip tie on(to keep moisture out) This makes stock joint last longer. You still might have to replace it down the road but it all depends on how long you own the truck

I tried borgeson shaft on my 92 and shaft fit sloppy on splines so i had to send it back. Has anyone else had this problem?

Found a quick fix!!!!!!!!!!

I have a sideline hobby of racing cars. Along my looking thru a wish book, I found a 36 x3/4 spline sleeve that fits a GM steering box. For a mere $15 and a little time,,I fixed my steering box problem. The sleeve fit right on the Dodge box, that has a set screw for keeping it on the box,,, I took the round plate that fastens to the rubber biscuit and cut off the original shaft. I then drilled the hole out in the center to 3/4 OD. I took a piece of steering shaft that is 3/4 OD and welded it between the round plate and the sleeve on the steering box. Absolutely no play and truck drives like a new one now. Also ,,inside the old original rectangular box was a pin thru a shaft and 2 little blocks. The shaft was rusted terrible and one side of the pin was about rusted into 2 pieces. Absolutely no grease in there at all. I'm glad I looked at this when I did...
