2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering Box Replacement

I need to replace the steering box on my 98' 3500. Is this something I should replace myself or bring it to the dealer? I'm fairly mechanically inclined and like to do my own repairs. Any help would be appreciated.

Where is the best place to purchase a new steering box?

just got done installing my PSC steering box earlier this week

It's a nice box and not too hard to install (just a pain to remove the pit man arm and to get to the bolts from the fluidlines on the box)

Heard a lot of good things about them. I have one of their steering boxes in my garage, just have not had time to install it. It looks really nice sitting there.



Install does not look too bad to do. I always figure if the dealer can do it, I definitely can do it.

I just had a PCS box installed by my dealer a couple of weeks ago. I have done them before, and tell you the truth if you can afford it, let someone else do it.

The PCS is awesome, of the last 3 boxes I have used, this is by far the best.

don't go cheap,buy the psc or a factory new . by all means don't buy a rebuilt or reman box . if you think about it a reman box is just a resealed gear box and still has the same gears in it that are wore out . i learned my lesson when i went threw reman boxs :-laf

if you can get the pitman arm off then it is easy to change i was swaping boxes aobut 2 a day (put in a new reman then swap back my old box) on my truck trying to find a good one when i wias dealing witht he reman boxes finally i just got all my money back fromt he reman box and bought a psc and the steering was much better

I installed the 3G track bar with adaptor and the steering box cross bar, but I have a little play in my box that causes a bit of a wander. Before I check into repalcing the box, can I adjust it? There is the center screw with lock nut that I would like to try to get any play out of it there. (The original box was replaced by the dealer at 25K- truck has 64K now) Thnaks.
