Have seen a thread recently that listed the steering box part #'s, but can't find it again. Please help, what is the GOOD (relative term?) box for a '96 3500 4x4???

Please help!!

I got a # that was on my invoice. I have a 4x4 98 QC. I don't know if they're the same, or waht a "good" box # is:
52113500AA
I don't have a price, the dealer did this under warranty. To this day I don't know what caused it to go bad. I picked the truck up from the dealer for an un related warranty repair,(prop shaft leak) and noticed almost 1 foot of "play" in the wheel.
The repair was done April 99, so I don't know if the #'s changed. HTH

the latest box is 52113500AF , i just had the AC installed , its not the delphi box and its not any better than the one that was originaly in my 2000 , in fact i think its worse ...

Mopar muscle, does this steering problem have a specific year it plagues, or is it just one of those "characteristic" things?
Seems like it's the newer trucks.
My steering was better(than 1 foot of play) after the new box, but was NEVER the same as when it was new.
Oh yea, will the newer box fit my truck?

Patriot, Steering box issues seem to plague most of these trucks. My understanding is that the Delphi box is better then the Saginaw box that is commonly used. If I could find a Delphi box I would try it to find out if this were true.

I just had the Delphi box installed on Friday (part #52113500AF). It's better than the original. 5200 miles on my truck - about 100 with the new box.

Can anybody accurately state what changes were made? Are Saginaw & Delphi building the boxes to the same blueprint? Did DC switch vendors for cost, manufacturing quality or design reasons?

Supposedly Delphi is owned by GM. Further, they are both in Saginaw, MI. Look at Delphi's website. However, when they installed my new box the shaft on the Delphi was slightly longer. I know because there was NO space for the Pitman arm removal tool on the GM box and there was approximately 1/4 inch space on the new box after the Pitman arm was tightened. So there is a difference in the physical dimensions of the box. I don't know about the internals. I'm confident some changes were made there also because of the difference in driveability.

The length of the Pitman shaft seems to be a manufacturing tolerance, as my saginaw box has lots of space between pitman arm and box. My latest only survived 15k mi before it got loose enought that 2 lanes are required, 3 preferred! Have heard rumor of AGR having a reman box that solves most of the saginaw problems, but can't find where to get one yet.

The AGR is what I would go with if I had to purchase the replacement. I thought I saw a thread on this a couple of weeks ago. That's interesting about the manufacturing tolerance. One other thing I noticed about the Delphi was the number of quality paint "swipes" on the bolts, preload adjustment and overcenter adjustement. I sure like it a lot better.
