Any GOOD aftermarket steering gear boxes that don't arrive in the box with . 100" lateral thrust at the pitman shaft???????????

Remember that our steering boxes are made by Saginaw which is owned by GM, the same people who brought you the dura-whatever.

Wish there was a better one to buy, mine went out at 35,000, thanks GM

Been there done that. But thanks.

The pre load and overcenter do not affect the lateral thrust at the lower pitman shaft. The lateral thrust causes the shaft to move sideways during the first inch or two of wheel movement instead of rotating.

Need new box. :{ and a better one than the 50k mi I got out of the last GM box from the stealer. #@$%!

not to long ago someone posted about a fix for your problem. it involved changing out the needle bearings that the pitman shaft rides on.

My AGR box has been in for two years now and I have no complaints at all, even with the larger 36" tires. It has perfomed greatly and no leaks. when I purchased mine a I was told to call them on the phone not to order over the net because they didn't have the box I needed on there web site. Apparently they make a much heavier model specifically for the heavier dodge cummins.

Thanks MIKEL

I was on the road last year when that thread was current. Bought a new gear box from DC today. Got hame and read & printed that thread. Looked at the new one and there is no seal at the bottom of the bearingon lower pitman arm, just packed w/ grease. Will go to stealer and get seal kit and put seal on bottom of bearing on lower shaft and keep the grease in and clean. #@$%! #@$%! #@$%! #@$%! #@$%! #@$%!

Shooter, please keep us posted, pictures if posible, my new is the same as you describe. Is it possible that anyone would be dumb enough to leave that bearing exposed to the elements?????? This sounds like building a truck with 3 PTO covers, a PTO wire in the harness, and not loading the software to make it work

If you take any pictures, send them to me -- email address removed --

Thanks

I took the pitman arm off mine and scraped some of the grease away and there is a seal there. You must have a bad one or a Friday assembly. I was PO'd that they wouldnt put a seal in below the bearing and had to find out. :D
