2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering clunk again

Dodge put a new steering shaft in last september, and

I think it is causing the clunk I feel . When I turn and give it power and the front end lifts I feel an annoying clunk. I think it is right or left. Can it be bad already. I grabbed it and it does have some play. I pulled the boot down and filled it with grease still does it . Do I need to get an aftermarket?
 
I chased a clunk for a long time before I finally found the problem in the base of the steering column. There is a cheesy bearing assembly where the end of the shaft connects with the sliding shaft. The plastic part of that assembly was broken.



I removed it and fashioned a bearing from delrin and "pressed" it in with a hammer. No more clunk. I have previously posted on this topic you can search for those post or e-mail me if you need further assistance.
 
Do I need to disconnect the steering shaft and pull the steering column out. I am getting a Borg shaft anyway,and t

will do this when I do the install. Any tips on the column removal

I have a manual.
 
RJ2, you clunk IS the steering column. In the engine compartment, the rod is telescopic... water gets inside and the two pieces rust together to a solid shaft! When the front suspension lifts (bump or under braking) the now-solid shaft is driven into the neopreane bushing in the firewall. I had to have my bushing replaced at the stealer. The steering assembly comes out pretty easily and gets oiled every 3 months or so. It's the only solution I have.
 
It was a year ago, so I had to dig thru my records... . I was charged $109. 05 installed. Part was $51. 45 and $57. 60 labor.

Just drop your column 3 times a year (or so) and goo it up. The job is short and simple, and it's a good excuse to look other things over carefully as well. The aftermarket ones are big $$.
