Has anyone done the plastic wire tie fix for the steering column clunk. I've replaced everything possible, track bar (Windecker Machine), intermediate shaft ( Borgeson) etc. with aftermarket parts. Still the clunk. Where do you place them and how do you go about it. I'm at my wits end, help!

You don't happen to have a 3rd gen adjustable track bar do ya? If so check the adjuster lock nuts. I had a terrrible clunk and found one of the lock nuts had loosened.

I have installed the Rock Solid modification and I am not sure how you refer to it as the wire-tie fix:confused:. It was a nice improvement to my steering column but do your homework and read up on the additional links. I created a problem with the shift tube which others had as well. The solution meant additional work. I know they have re-engineered the bushing with different tolerances and I'm sure that resolved many issues.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with the upgrade along with the others I have done but it has quieted my column nicely.

One more thing. If you need good work on your truck, stop over to 5 Point Motors in High Point, NC. (That shouldn't be too far for you). They did some work on my truck while I was on vacation in NC and they are well recommended. Just ask for Mark.

Thanks for the response Tomscreek. I do have a 2003 bar installed but it is not adjustable. It came with the Windecker Machine Ltd. kit out of Canada. Had it on a lift and checked. Eveything else seems tight

Hi Wilsonf. It was a tech topics post on GENOS Garage Dodge help. Performed by someone and said it got rid of the problem and was so simple he can't believe Dodge didn't figure it out. Unfortunatly he doesn't tell you where he put the ties. He does mention that it takes up the where the two sections of the column slide together.

Thanks Ramtuf1. I ran the sheet off their website last night and was hoping someone else had done this also. Any problems putting the replacement bushing in place? I'm placing my order tonight

I could write a book on the problems that I had and from reading other posts, other had the same issue. In all fairness, Dave Bazley was great and helped where he could. The newer bushings (I'm sure) provide for a slightly looser fit in the end of the steering column which allows for easier installment and avoids the difficult installation we encountered.

Just follow the directions and even with the Anti-lock brakes, you can install it in the truck. It isn't that much of a job, though, to remove the column and perform the install on a bench.

Click on the link below and check out the problems associated with the early stages of the bushing design. I had to perform the same repair to my column that is described somewhere around page 7 or 8. I have no issues and totally satisfied with the bushing. Good luck. Oo.

I know I ordered one in 2006 and it did not work, ruined my column and I never seen any of the "money back guarantee" so beware of what you buy.

I have to say that the Rock Solid bushing worked great on my truck. I had a clunk deep inside the column and this cured it right up. I don't think it made my steering more precise or anything, but it definitely fixed the main issue I was aiming to cure. Installation was easy, but you want to follow directions closely or I could see how it would cause problems.
