Steering Column Info Needed

About to convert my automatic over to a 5-speed. The truck I am switching from does not have tilit or cruise. I was wondering if we could just change out the shifting mechanism from my column, onto his without changing the entire column. Also, the wiring harness from the inside part of the firewall is the same on all these trucks right? If it has a 5-speed, it just has the plugs tapped back, like the OD switch and transmission temp light. Fellow TDR member DuallyDean confirmed that for me, but I am still curious about the steering columns, anyone have any experience with the columns?? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Guess no one here has taken on such a major project as you. Best bet may be to check with the dealer parts dept and see if the part numbers are different. I always wondered what becomes of the hole in the floor for the guy that gets the auto and if the underdash clutch linkage pivot points are included on autos. Guess you'll find out.
