How do you swap a steering column?Im converting my 99 auto to a stick & was under the dash looking at the wiring that runs up the column & under the plastic covers. this wiring goes into the main wiring harness under the dash & does not just unplug. When i swap the stick shift column into my truck what do i have to do with the wiring on the column?Does the wiring unplug under the plastic covers & under the steering wheel or do all the controls on the column have their own harness?Thanks... .

Kurt,

Swapping columns is an awful lot of work for a little bit. I took the auto shifter off of mine and slid the little sliding piece around to cover the hole. Unless your really looking you can't even tell it ever had a shifter on the column. It was very simple.

That is what i did to my dads truck when i converted it from an auto to a stick. But this time im swapping all the auto stuff from my 99 to another truck that has a 5 speed. The two trucks are identical but he will need my column. I went back out & pulled the plastic cover off & there is a plugin for the wiring.
