Hey Gang!

I'm in the final stages of my truck prep for my upcoming Western Trip...

Question for those of you that have replaced the "Steering Coupler" for $5. 00 approx. from DODGE to renew steering 'feel' on the 4X4 trucks.

When installing the "bowtie" shaped parts in the Roll Pin Housing of the Coupler, "Do the 'flats' of the BowTie pieces go toward the housing or toward the steering shaft?"

My '92 Service Manual doesn't show anything...

Thanks! Keeno :)

I installed mine with the flats towards the shaft. The coupler seemed to work better that way, and the spring fits better on the inside of the bowties that way.

Good Luck with the install.

Thanks Jason!

That's the way mine is installed also... I just couldn't be sure & was hoping for comfimation. Thanks!

Any other of the TDR Brothers have an answer &/or comment?

Keeno,

I thought you had the borgeson shaft? I used that replacement from Dodge and changed it out within 8 months. I can't imagine it would last long with those meats you are running. Are you going to take some pics of your trip for the rest of us???

That's the other truck.....

Hey Matt "S"!:)

My truck still has the original Steering Shaft & I've swapped the coupler out w/ good, but temporary results over the past 2 years. The kits are $5. 00 from Dodge and this is my second one, I figured it wouldn't hurt to toss one on for the trip.

The former "Old School" truck has a Borgeson Steering Shaft on it and it really is superior in 'feel' & performance. I plan to install one in the near future but @ $5. 00 a pop for the coupler kit it has slid down the priority list a few times. The new tires might dictate replacement sooner than anticipated.

Keepin' it between the lines... . :D

When I replaced mine, I got from dodge a large boot that is held on with two hose clamps. This seems to last longer that the small rubber seal.

Also I drilled a small hole on the steering box end and installed a grease fitting. I give it one shot at every oil change:
