Steering damper removal question

OK, what's the secret of removing the steering stabilzer mounting stud from the drag link on a 2001. 5 2500 4WD? I'm installing a Rancho steering stabilizer, but can't seem to remove the stud on the stock stabilzer. Is it tappered? I tried hitting the horizontal face of the drag link with a hammer without luck. Do I need a puller? If so, what size to avoid the stablizer bar? Thanks!

Hit it hard enough it will come off. . Mine did! You may wanna keep the washer thats on your original damper. Its pressed on there. I had to weld mine old tapered pin to my rancho since it didnt have the right hardware to mount into my drag link.
