Started the truck this morning, and discovered the power steering pump was whining/moaning. Shut it down and pulled the cap off the pump to find foamy fluid. Still investigating and then I see where the power steering gear body is wet with fluid which seems to be comming from the Steering wheel end of the gear assembley. Looking in the shop manual, I think this is refered to as the stub shaft.
What are the chances that I will get to replace just the outermost seal? or is it gone because the seals in the valve body have blown out and caused the outermost seal to let go also? is working on a powersteering gear, second to rebuilding a automatic transmission? kinda nervous about getting into this, but i need the truck to be road worthy by tomorow afternoon. guess I will start cleaning process, and pull a wheel. all opinions are welcome.
Thanks,
Jason
