Hello all... I'm starting to notice some steering wander in my truck, I know it was a problem in the 2nd gens, but I thought it was fixed. It just started gradually happening, but 'm getting a little squirreliness, not a lot, just constant correcting, and the steering feels tighter... not more responsive, just a bit harder to turn. any thoughts? Also first door ding today, wish I would have paid the ridiculous price for the trim option now... know where I can get them factory green? thanks in advance... Michael

I know what you mean about the ding, I've got 3 now. You should be able to get the colored trim from the Dealer. It is adheasive backed, just peel and stick. One suggestion use some tape for a guide to keep it straight when you put it on

Check your steering gear for slop. You should be able to move the steering shaft and have the pitman arm move without any delay or slop. If it is loose it will have to be removed and the adjustment screw set to 14 in lbs of preload. This is a change from the old boxes that required a small amount of looseness to work over the long haul. finally, I found that my truck is very sensitive to allignment.

Good luck,

Scotty

Check out my thread under 03 steering gear box. Mine wouldn't return to center/neutral and required constant correcting. DC replaced the steering gear box dut to internal binding.

mconstable. Of course the trip to DC to have them diagonose the problem then a week to get the new box and then another day @DC for them to put it in. It seem that no matter what is wrong it takes @ least a day to get it fixed. Hope this helps. My 03 steers just like it's suppose to.
