Okay since aquiring the 92 250 i have a few things that i have to fix on it, no biggy as most are just little things, my main concern is the second half of the steering that goes down to the steering box itself, the long rectangle looking box which the shaft goes into and then it goes into the steering box thats the culperit, seems to me its a ball bearing desige inside as its really sloppy and needs replace as pointed out to me by the inspection station one reason i was rejected LOL.

Is there a fix to this and where do i get it, the guy told me the dodge dealer had a kit to replace it and i could do the work myself, anyone have a clue how much the kit is? I looked at the Borgesson shaft its nice but right now im just looking to fix the steering and possibly will upgrade at a later time... I did a search and came up with alot of found searches but as im unfamiliar with the 92 and its steering thats why i posted this...

Thanks

Ps. if anyone has a picture that would be great i think i described the part im talking about to where someone knows what im talking about.

I forget what they call that joint, but yes there is a rebuild kit available for it. See the dealer parts man. It has little curved "shoes" that let it pivot and slide in the square part.

Travis. .

Don't waste your time with the rebuild, it will only get loose again in a few months. Been there done that. Get a borgensen replacement shaft with real u-joints and it will outlast the truck. The best upgrade I have did to mine. Steering is tighter than new. Got mine from Peirs Diesel.

Rlyons

Is that just the shaft and the little box right before it goes into the steering box is that what the shaft from Borgesson included, where would i get one and how much do they usually run?

Thanks.

What rlyons said. . The stock shaft is junk. especialy for a 4X4. I bought the factory rebuild kit and it didn't work very good as the new pin was still too loose because of other worn parst you dont get with the kit. I went Borgenson and been smiling ever since. like a rebuilt box ! It's a real good product

I visited the Borgesson site, the 1979-1993 shaft is the one i need, 200$ not bad at all for a permanent fix and peice of mind while driving of course that is priceless, will have to get it soon and replace the old one, i take it you just remove the old stock and it bolts right up and is secured to the steering box from what i saw in the picture.

Thanks again guys you all saved me a heap of reoccuring trouble.

Yes the Borgeson or flaming river replaces the everything from the steering box up to the rag joint with needle bearing crosses. If you fell handy and have the tools, for about $60 you can buy the joint setup from a supply house and replace the joint by the box for as good a fix. Depends on how well you figure you can weld and build.

Wyatt, Peirs Diesel has it for a little less and are great people to deal with. I just ordered my 3200 RPM governor spring and intake setup this week from Harry at peirs. Here is the link and you can call him at the 866 number to speak with him if you want. Like I said the best upgrade I have did.

Cerber i don't have a welder, i can weld but never had the need for one here until now  Oh well...

rlyons thanks for the heads up i will try monday and call them as i only have 15 days on that damn rejection sticker, if i had only taken it somewhere else i wouldn't have to be rushing, i checked the truck out and i knew what needed replaced and what didn't but with the rejection sticker it has me in a bind as far as time that is... .

Wyatt I agree go with the Borgeson. It is top quality.

NOTE wrap the ujoint with a wet rag to act as a heat sink if you do any welding in the shaft. You don't want to chance boiling the grease out of the ujoint or damaging the seal. ;)

The Borgeson shaft is on its way!!!

called them this morning and it will be shipped out today, glad they had them in stock, should arrive thursday and maybe i can get this thing from wandering on me, up to 55 its really not that bad, but yesterday i had the chance to pass, for a stock engine @ 180 this thing will move, shifted to 4th and down on the go pedal before i knew it i was at almost 70mph i didn't intend to go that fast but she was floating right along and at those speeds wow the steering is really wobbly. . :--)

Thanks guys for all your help with my new baby :D

My steering coupler (right outside the steering box) has 2 hose clamps, one at either end. It doesn't look factory to me! Anybody know what was done to it by a previous owner? I plan to replace with a Borgeson shaft at some point. Its still tight, but not as good as it could be.

yeah i would be interested in that pic as well, when surfing either the borgeson website or another one i can't remember which, one of them had something similar with hoses and if im not mistaken they had a picture of hit on a truck im not for sure if it replaces just that coupler or the whole steering box... and i think it was blue in color ,the pic of that set up...

For future reference, you can take the stock steering coupler apart and flip the internals around and tighten the stering for a temporary fix, or to pass inspection/ revenue collection.

I have no experience with the Borgenson shaft, but will say the box from PSC is MUCH better than stock- no slack or vagueness. If I dont get rid of mine soon, I will order the Borgeson shaft, and see what that does. If the aftermarket shaft is half the improvement the aftermarket box is, I'd say it's well worth the $180+ shipping.

Borgenson shaft is well worth the money. I have had mine on for 10yrs now and no problems. My truck sees a fair amount of mud, and the stock parts don't last any time at all.

hey guys, i am a fairly new CTD owner. The steering on my 93 is real sloppy. Is that steering shaft worn out or what else could it be?

If you are running the stock shaft it is worn out and you need to contact Peirs Diesel and order a Borgeson Shaft, you will never be sorry you did.

The joings of the shaft wear out at the top and the bottom. There is a rebuild kit for the lower joint. Cheap fix and isn't worth the trouble.

The borgenson shaft is a great product and I HIGHLY recommend getting the full shaft with two U-Joints to replace the rag joint at the top end of the shaft too.

tx_fireman its well worth the money, me being on the east coast i just called Borgeson in CT. and had them send it down and in 2 days it was here.
