Steering Wander

I struggled with steering 'wander' and 'pulling' on me '96 dodge cummins. I purchased a 2001 HO 6 Speed 4x4 that wandered a bit when I purchased it. Took it to the dealer, and they tore apart the front end and did something to the ball joints and put it all back together???. It still wanders. Does DC have any fixes for this, or should I go to after market products??. I am not real mechanically inclined. Thanks.

Mine needed a new track bar and steering box before it steered right. Both before 4,000 miles. The 2001s seem to have a lot of bad steering boxes.

Steering noises

My steering makes a click in the morning or when it sits for about 8 hours when I first turn the wheel after I get in the truck. Dealer said it was the steering column u joint. They replaced and it still does it even more now. If I pull up to a stoplight and crank the wheel to the left, it clicks and I can feel the click through the brake pedal. Have to take it back. Mine seems to wonder a bit too.

My truck also did steer bad i put good tires and rancho 9000 now it drives great. Just want i found. My factory tires were terrible,dealer said i had a belt bad in one of tires also.

15000 miles now, ours is getting annoying. Time to give the dealer a call see what he offers. Even though most members who have dealt with this problem suggest we not bother to have warranty re-install the same cr@p. Have to let them try, makes for a better claim, then we all have to go to the NTSB and file a complaint. Maybe someone at the NTSB speaks German?

I had a bit of a problem too. I changed tires and put a Rancho 5000 stableizer on it now i have no problems.

Is your Rancho stabilizer a direct replacement for the OEM part? A few months ago, my wife ran our truck into a hole when driving through some high grass in the pasture. She bent the crap out of the stabilizer.

I looked at all the aftermarket stuff I could find, and checked with all the major autoparts chains. At that time, no one had a replacement stabilizer for a 2001. All the aftermarket stuff had a straight shank stud where the stabilizer mounts to the track bar, my truck had a tapered pin. I did find some "universal" type stabilizers that attached using U bolts and so forth, these probably would work fine, but to prevent any warranty hassles in the future, I wanted a direct replacemet type part. Wound up coughing up 100 bucks at the dealer, but for future reference, I was curious if Rancho had come out with an OEM replacement stabilizer for the newer trucks.

Sorry was out of town. I took my truck to schwab and they ordered it for me and all it was was the rancho 5000 stableizer. They did have to do some hammering underneath there to make it fit, when the hammering started i had to leave But it has helped out a lot and im glad i got it put on.

FishIdaho I jsut went through the problems you are describing. After the dealer aigned the front, adjusted the steering gear, (3000 miles) replaced the track bar, (20000) and finally a new steering box, it is cured and drives great. Suggest you attempt to have dealer replace the steering gear. Good Luck. Thork
