Has anybody replaced their Infinity system radio, and if so, what did you put in and were you able to save the steering wheel controls. How'd ya do it? Thanks.

That's why I didn't spend the cash for the steering wheel controls. I knew I would be updating my stereo.
No units to date.

I'm in the process of doing the exact thing. I have the Infinity system, which I didn't care for when I bought the truck but, it was included in the deal. Anyway, I've been waiting for 3 months now for Pac-Audio's steering wheel control SWI-ALP for the Alpine line of head units that interfaces the steering wheel controls with the Alpine stereos via wire instead of IR.

Unfortunately, you MUST bypass the Infinity amp. I was under the impression that I could interface and aftermarket deck with the Infinity amp but, because of the PCI bus interface it doesn't allow for such. Problem is accessing the wiring on the amp in order to wire speaker wires to the aftermarket stereo. That amp is buried up under the dash.

1. 5 hours after starting I managed to extract that Infinity POS. Required the hands of a 2 year old and dexterity of a monkey. Feel sorry for the poor mechanic who only gets 2 hours to R&R under warrantee.

I've got the basic system installed and working.

Head Unit: Alpine 9851

Ipod interface: Alpine KCa-420

Pac-Audio universal remote control.

Sounds better than the Infinity system and I still have my steering wheel controls. The Pac-Audio can be programmed for about 11 options, volume up/down, source, advance/back, mute, power, can't remember the rest. It's nice to still be able to volume up and down from the steering wheel.

I have stuff ordered but am waiting to get it all here. Pioneer Deh P860mp head unit. I have the xm tuner and adapter coming and the Pac SWI-PS for the sterring wheel controls.

After much searching, I came up with a new wiring harness from Metra #70-6510 that is supposed to hoolk up the HU and bypass the Infinity Amp. I am not looking forward to digging out the amp but I guess it has to be done.

CFoye, how did you hook up your speakers? Did you tie in the tweeters, if so to which wires. Thanks

I love the steering wheel mounted controls. On my Hemi I had the 1-cd player in dash and added an Alpine 6-cd changer. Was able to find an interface cable for that and could control the CD changer from the wheel controls.

That truck had the Infinity speakers but I never noticed an amp anywhere. My CTD has Infinity again and there is an amp behind the back seat. It is really easy to get at.

Lack of steering wheel mounted controls would have been a showstopper for me. It was a must-have option along with the fold-flat rear floor.

Are you sure your amp is behind the seat - I have an 05 2500 and mine is in the dash - at least that is according to the dealer service department - but hey they have been full of it before.

I think it is the amp. Otherwise I don't know what it is. Says Delphi Delco Electronics on it. Here are some pics. First the sticker with part number. Then a pic of the whole thing.

Edit: It might be the satellite radio.

Steering wheel controls for Kenwood?

Has anyone installed the Pac-Audio SWI-X for the Kenwood head. It says that you need to splice in wires and install an IR emitter within sight of the radio. The IR emitter simulates your remote control. I'm just wondering where people have placed this.

Thanks!
