I have a 2001 2500 Quad LB 4WD and when I make a turn or shift lanes the steering whell doesn't return to center. I have to bring it back manually. I have put up with is for a while but now that I am pulling a trailer it's all over the place. There is no play in the steering wheel. It's been to the dealer and they said it is how the truck is but with some changes to the wheel alignment it would be better. They moved the caster out to 4. 4 and it is somewhat better but not the way I feel it should be. I talked to a guy today who has a 03 and he has no problems. Has anybody experienced this problem and if so what is the fix?

Also, the steering box has been replaced becaused it sprung a leak in the housing. Still the same after that.

Thanks

Rich

Jack it up, stands under the housing, and try to swing the wheels through their travel. Then take the steering damper loose and try it again. Then take the steering linkage off at the steering gear and try again. Process of elimination. PM if you need more detail.

What is the caster spec supposed to be? It can be a major part of it going straight and whell returning to center. Spec should be set to the + side and over spec on castor doesnt hurt anything except increases steering effort.

Thanks everybody. I took it back to the dealer and showed them the TSB. They said it did not apply to the 2001. I do not think the steering has changed i 2 years. They checked the truck again and have ordered another steering box. We will see if that makes a difference. I'll let you all know.

Thanks
