I have a newly aquired 2000 Ram 2500. Got some bugs to work out and been doing lots of reading, esp about the "death wobble". Experianced this twice in under 20 miles. But what I would like to know is if the steering wheel from a Durango, van or Dakota will fit this truck. Leather is worn through and I detest wheel covers. Salvage yard says they dont have a way to cross. Any experiance? I'd like to put a simple non-covered wheel on this truck that I can wear through to the metal.

quite a few different columns share the same splines, like on my 96 i put a grant from a chevy conversion van on, wheel/adapter was no problem but i had to build a slip ring system for the horn to work

where the cruise buttons ended up

this may not be a option for the later trucks but it or something like it may be if the column is the same

It sounds like the columns are pretty similar. Didnt know if anyone else had the same problem with the leather wheel cover wearing through. I guess I can measure the Durango wheel and try it to see if it works. Dont want to disable the airbag or it to blow up in my face if I do something wrong. Thanks for the reply and photos!

if the wheel looks the same it will likely work, mopar use pretty much every part to death on every car/truck, something should turn up in a junk yard

Wheel Skins

Genos sells Leather Wheel Skins for the Ram. They arent a "cover" like you buy at autozone or walmart. They are a leather skin that is actually laced onto the steering wheel with heavy duty cord. Once laced on you can't tell its a cover. Looks just like it came from the factory.

On the other hand, if you have the leather covered wheel, you could just cut it off. I cut mine off several years ago when it started wearing a hole in the bottom. Its a bit smaller diameter and takes very little to get used to. I forget about it from time to time. Its like it came from the factory like that.
