My suggestion is to lay under the truck while someone very gently rocks the steering wheel back and forth. If you side to side movement of the sector shaft coming out of the bottom of the steering gear but it's not leaking then it's a prime candidate for a brace and it will make a huge difference. It did on my truck.

My trucks steering wouldn't return to center as well, upper ball joint was frozen and completely rusted. A new set of dynatrac ball joints fixed the issue and the truck drives like new again. Hopefully for a long time with the cost of the joints!

Mike, I had a similar issue on my 04.5 that all started with new ball joints. I opted for Moog's since they were greasable it was after that the wander started so I went to replacing the rest of the steering components one at a time trying to fix the issue even upgraded to the 08 improved steering components. Nothing helped I was ready to sell the truck so out of desperation I put the mopar ball joints in it and it fixed it.

Don't know if that will help just my experience.

I was having trouble returning to center, replaced the hydro assist, better. Granted I had already replaced the bjs, linkage, and box.
