Hey everyone,

First off, I hope that everyone is having a better start to this year.

I took my truck into the dealer last November for the steering wheel recall. I have now developed a clicking in the wheel when turning to the right and going over 40mph. It does not do it when stopped or barely rolling. Again only above 40mph. Any ideas if its actually in the steering wheel? Thats where is can be heard the most and gets louder over time during the day. Its sounds like the clock spring is rubbing but if that were true wouldn't you hear it even at a stand still and turning the wheel?

it was the steering wheel clock spring wire harness recall. I forgot the number on it but basically the clock spring wire can catch on the airbag harness and cause the airbags to deploy while driving. I went 8 years without getting it done, wife freaked out about it so i went and had it done at the dealer and now this issue has come up.

There isn't anything in the recall procedure that should cause it. They just tie the wire back so it can't rub through. The repair is on the inside (top side) of the steering wheel and the clock spring is under the steering wheel, so you don't even touch it during the recall.

Hmmmm, wonder if something is rubbing or causing the click? Maybe it could even bey steering wheel gauge pod mount that I need to shave down or something.

What year is your truck? My 19' goes in Wednesday for a click when I turn my steering wheel particularly to the left...

OOOOHHHH didn't think of that one!!!! I assume taking the steering apart is pretty simple just gotta remove power and go from there. I've done it on other vehicles just never a ram.

The most difficult part is getting the air bag off. After disconnecting the batteries (yes, both) the bag is retained by spring clips. Until you have taken one apart it is hard to visualize how it is retained. There is a special tool, but I ground down a small pry bar that works well to release the three tabs. You are doing it blind, so that is why it is difficult the first time. There may be some Youtube videos that show it.

had our 2012 work truck done many moons ago, now the steering wheel evic buttons operations are intermittent

I just had my steering wheel apart twice this past week. You don't need a special tool. A flat blade screw driver, or a trim removal tool will work. This video shows the entire operation of removing everything all the way down to the clock spring. I was able to completely take it all apart and back together in under two hours the first time. The second time (replacing the steering wheel harness) took even less. I'll have to do it a third time since the wire harness I ordered was the incorrect part number.
