2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Steering Wheel Replacement?

I have a 97 2500 with the two prong wheel and old style cruise control does' anyone know if I can switch to a 98 style, will the wiring work on the cruise and will the splines fit on the hub and match? Thanks for any input. eg

I was told they don't match up. The only reason I say this is because I wanted to change mine as well. I hate the steering wheel that is on my 97.
