5's

hi guys

the bully dog 5's are awesome!!! as far as bullydog's 200hp gain claims they are pretty dang close. my dd2's gave me 90hp on both a mustang dyno and a dyno jet dyno. the 5's gave me another 100-105 hp gain.

now they do smoke pretty bad, and they don't idle the best but they will flat out make some hp.

but if you add a comp box and turn it to 1-1 the smoke is about like my old dd2's and ez. with the comp box i would never go smaller than dd-sm or bd4's.

i have made 515hp with just #2 with my eth. the comp gives me around 50hp over the ez. that is with a stock eth vp-44.

i believe hvac is running a set of custom injectors right now but he used to run bd4's.

if you want to see how bad they smoke or my dyno charts click on my ram picks below.

Jim, glad you jumped in  .

Forgot to add on the FP note, I believe it was Mopar Muscle who stated to me that if you are not falling flat on your face at WOT, you have enough. Really does make alot of sense to me, hence the reason I'm not chasing big HP with high FP, just trying to keep the idle psi's high enough so that the WOT psi's are above zero is the name of the game, with a few to spare for insurance. Mopar is making over 400 HP with a stock Carter pump and only modified banjos as his fuel system. Something to consider.

If it were me I would go with the comp rather than bigger injectors. I have ran several different brands and sizes of injectors and in the end the DD2's drove the best (smoothest, best fuel mileage) in my opinion. I often run the Diesel Dynamics Super Mentals as well but that's usually around the time that a show is coming up. Remember these major injectors ie. SM's, step 5's will cause alot more problems in the long run. Trust me I know I lost an injection pump. Just keep in mind that most people running these monster injector do alot more than just injectors (exhaust mods, turbo, fuel system, and what ever else needs fixing). It ends up costing alot approx. $3000 I would guess. Besides there is only so much power that you can use on the street. I can tell you my truck is very tuff to keep on the road. Once the big plunge is made to use the big injectors you will need a comp to turn them down when towing or your trailer will soon be black. :D I love my Super Mentals and wouldn't trade them for the world but it's take more than just them to make a winning combo.

Chris, the Mentals actually ran very well in my truck, idle was good, it bounced about 50rpm's. I didn't have that problem when slowing down, even with the 93 in the truck.

stefan

when we put your supermentals in miker's truck they were about 50hp less than my 5's, maybe that's why the idle is worse with the 5's.

how much power are you bringing with you on the 2nd?:)i hope to be around my last run at 717hp. if i do there will be people around so i guess it will count.

see ya on the 2nd.

stefan--it is only a pain when driving from city block to city block and having to stop at each stop sign ---other than that they do make the truck run quicker IMO---chris

Well guys I have BD 4's in my truck and they are pretty good for the daily driver. they will lope every once in awhile but not as bad of for as long as the 5's will.

i plan to dyno the truck this next weekend at KC. i will let you know what i have at that point. I havent been able to dyno since the BD's due to a stock clutch. with the addition of the South Bend a month ago i am VERY ancious to see what i can lay down. (besides smoke :D )

to answer a question about fueling boxes, i made 310HP 675ftlbs with Just the Powermax 3 and 4" exhaust. that was on level 8.

like i said, i was on the stock clutch and it would slip with anything past that.

to sum it up, if you dont mind a little smoke and loping at now and then. the 5's will work on the street. just be prepared, they are not for the faint at heart.

if you dont want to risk it. wait until next monday and i can tell you what the 4's can throw down.

had i known 5's were an option, i would have gotten them when i got mine.

If there is a fueling box that kicks the EHT in the pants like an ETC, I would be all over it.

Dennis

My ETH turned 359. 6 Hp with 275 rv's and a comp. Then it turned 426+ with DD3's and a comp. And at times it is 450+ (sea Level)

Jim,

When we put the Mentals in Mike's truck before Dyno days he dynoed 434hp and you did 443hp if my memory serves correct. Plus he didn't have his Power Max turned up all the way and he also had and HX40 with a 14cm housing so that's got to be worth at least 9hp. It wasn't a fair comparison as there was diffenately factors that we all know affect hp.

On the 2nd I am hoping for high 500's to low 600's. I will be running just NOS no Propane. I figure that it will take a while to get the NOS figured out. I will hopefully get the system on for the 26th so that I have some time to test. I know that I am leaving everything for the last minute but the sterio still isn't finished and so the truck is there everyday. My dad couldn't even take my truck to get the cam and head done. :( I am also hoping that the new lift pump shows up in time cause right now I am using the stock carter pump. :( With my comp turned up on 5 and the DD2's in I hit 0psi under full throttle. That better than before as I was getting - pressure. :( Unfortunately Lawrence isn't going to be able to make it, I think that it's my fault too, cause when we first started this thread and you said that you couldn't make it, I told him that and he made other plans. :( :(

stefan

get a lift pump in that thing. i don't think dtt will warranty anymore vp-44's. :D

with mikes truck here is what it was. with his ez he made 350hp with my comp on 1-5 i made 399hp. when we turned the boxes up he was within 10 hp of me. i had my hx-40 wastegated to 35psi and forgot to block it off so i could make 50+ for the run.

you sure are waiting to the last minute to get that nos on there. stereo- shmario if it doesn't make you faster or have more hp who needs it.

it's too bad lawerence can't make it up, his day will come;) with just nos and your dd vp pump you should be able to get to 600-650hp.

Dennis when I dynoed my setup with the EZ I was 309. Yesterday with the Comp 358 RWHP. The numbers were running as usual for everyone else, so I trust these results.
