I would like to get a set of Step/Nerf Bars for my 2001; 2500 Quad Cab, 4WD. I heard that the Westin brand it not the best.

Can anyone tell me where I can get a really good set of step bars? Or are the Westins just fine? This was just one guy's opinion. What is the standard for the TDR croud?

Luverne Nerf Bars

I've got black powdercoat Luverne nerf bars on mine. Primarily because there is a dealer for them in my hometown. Quite a few people in that area have them and I don't know of any problems with them.

Very sturdy, in fact they've already deflected one car backing into me in a parking lot.

You can take a look at them here: Luverne Nerf Bars

I have WAAG Step bars. I really was looking for something that was wheel to wheel to fill in the space behind the cab before the rear wheel. They are ok, I like them because of the aluminum tread plates that you can get. It compliments my two-tone.

Nicole (Ms. Mactruck) wanted the same type of thing for her truck. She wanted wheel to wheel bars to get in the back of her bed. (she's uhhh - vertically challenged ;) ) Well thats when Go Rhino came out with there wheel to wheel side bars. I have to say, if I was going to do it all over again I would have gone with these in a heartbeat. They are less expensive, and more durable. They are also way easier to install.

Check out my Sig. If you would like better pics Email or PM me.

Good luck :) Kevin M.

I have had the DC nerf bars since the truck was new. I had the stealer install them before I picked up the truck. I like them and they seem to work well. I do not like how they attach to the truck, but since they are installed and were expensive ($400+) I am going to leave them. Part of the reason they are expensive is that they are Alu and powder coated. Click the link to my truck pic in the sig and you can see em.

Max, Check out J&J Enterprises www.j-jent.com . They make stainless steel Nerf-N-Step bars. They are nerf bars with a wide step under each door. I have them on my truck now for over 3 years. A little polish shines them right up. They bolt to the cab instead of the frame, but are very strong. A little pricey, but a quality piece. Check out their web-site. -Glen

nerfs

max, i agree with the thought about the go rhino wheel to wheels. i would have gotten them, but went with the Maniks, because of the 6 week wait i was told i'd have with the Go Rhinos. the Dodge bars have a disadvantage--can't have dodge mud flaps with them. they extend into the wheel well too far. another member has Pherd (gasp!!) nerfs on his Ram. i saw a set, and must say, they looked good on the Pford. i agree, having seen the westins, i have some concern about the attachment. the Maniks are nice, and i do like them, but the Go Rhinos would get my vote, or the Ford. don't have a clue how much difficulty one would have installing the Ford bars... .

Luverne

Ditto what AggieJustin and Work2Much said. I put a set on my new '99 right after I bought it. My only regret is not finding some better front mud flaps to deflect more rocks and sand away from my door seals.

nerfs.

Just make sure whatever you get there not chrome plated, with the amount of rock that hit them they would not hold up. Mine are stainless and work and look good, can't remember the name off hand.

I've got the Smittybilt Stainless Steel ner bars. They are great and have held up well, even when the truck was stuck on a short stone wall. Thats another story though.

nerfs

i agree on the "no chrome" info. i'd have the same objection to painted or powder coated?? stainless stands up well. brushed aluminum may pick up dirt, and be very difficult to clean the dirt out of the "grooves".

I have Dodge mud flaps with the Dodge nerf bars. Its a tight fit, and if you had taller tires it might not work, but right now it works. If I get taller tires I am just going to cut the bars off and a bit. .

dodge nerfs and mud flaps

well so much for my ''good" info:D the accessory catalog says they can't be used together, and i looked at a pair of the nerfs. i have the dodge flaps, and i had concluded that they WOULDN'T work together. i'm

Heres my Westin Nerf bars. I have had these on for 2 yrs now and there is only slightly little rust on the very end of the tubes which are under the truck anyway... ...

Go-Rhino Sumatra 6000 stainless (wheel to wheel)

My Pops has them on his 2001 Quad Cab 4x4, cummins of course and

they are schweet.

I just recently installed Westin CPS Nerf bars. They are chrome-plated stainless steel and thus should last a long time. Installation was pretty straight-forward. They attach to the cab mounting bolts and have a strap that attaches to the body for additional support. I have no regrets about buying them.
