I have a 2003, Quad Cab, 3500, 4x4, long bed. I definitely want to install steps so the wife can climb in a little more gracefully. Up to now I had planned to install 4 Kodiak steps, the ones that tuck up out of sight and lower when a door is opened. I still like the Kodiaks but something happened last week that makes me think maybe I should get something else.
Last week I observed someone flinging their door open. It didn't matter to him that the door banged into the side of the vehicle next to him. The door rebounded back and he flung it open again. He did it 3 times that I saw until his door stayed open. (I was at work at the time and couldn't leave the cash register unattended, otherwise I would have gone out and had some words with the jerk. )
That made me think that since I unfortunately live in a city and very often park next to other vehicles, maybe I should get a step or step bar that would give some protection from other vehicles' doors. The Kodiak steps would not give any such protection. My new truck does have the bodyside molding option that I suppose would offer some protection, but probably not much.
Any ideas?
