I hooked up my Blue Chip VP44 cover and I got some codes. I've done a search and I cannot come up with how to clear the codes without taking it to the dealer. I know that there is the software that can be loaded onto a computer to read them and then there's the Quickcheck II but can these also remove the codes from the ECM and PCM? I'm not talking about just getting the light to go off, but to remove them from "memory" when I cycle the key. TIA

Any shop with the OBDII scan tool should be able to clear the codes. I think even Autozone will do it for you for free.

Un-hook the batteries for a couple of hours and try the key click again to see if they show up again. What do you have(truck,yr,ect)? Chris

I've never tried this, but when I saw it posted a month or so back I copied it. Let me know if it works.

The best way to clear the codes before going to the dealer is:

1) remove airbox

2) Pull the three plugs behind it on firewall. This will clear all codes right away.

3) re install airbox after plugging in plugs.....

This is a sure fire way to clear all codes in the ECM and PCM

Thanks

BTW, I have a 2002 2500 4X4 and I did the last suggestion of pulling the plugs on the ECM and it worked. Thanks again.

Disconnect the positive battery terminals for 5-10 minutes. This removes the codes from the odometer, I dont know if this technique removes them if they are stored in other places.

battery method

I have a 1998. 5 with 24valve. I have a check engine light caused, I am quite sure, by a failure of the APPS. I unhooked the batteries for about three hours before hooking them up again. That didn't clear the light in my case. Auto Zone tried too, to no avail - maybe their scan tool had a problem or was too old.

Now I will try the three plug trick and see what that does.

It seems to make a difference what kind of error code is stored and what year the truck was made as well.

codes

ON a check engine light code start engine and turn off engine

3 times to clear code if this doesn't work check all connections

on fueling box. :p
