Lots of options, just thought I'd check here first. I need an AM/FM CD with speakers. Like to keep it $400 or less. Anywone have any suggestions about what goes in and works well on our older trucks.

Thanks

I have a Kenwood CD player in mine for about 2 1/2 years. Took some time to get it in due to the smaller size. The kit was for a lot of different vehicles and needed some 'adjustments' but it is in there and looks factory. I also up graded the speakers in the doors to a three-way. Haven't done the ones behind the seat yet. I think the CD player was about $350 and the speakers were around $80-$100.

You should be able to get a deal on a stock CD player at a wrecker. I'm pretty happy with the sound of my stock stereo - so happy that I haven't put my Sony double DIN in yet.

I would suggest Crutchfield.com they are fantastic when it comes to Automotive stereos, just use the system selector and tell it what your rig is and it narrows down the options to what fits in you particular truck. I spent a little less than $300 for a Kenwood AM/FM CD in dash player with a set of 2 Kenwood 4 way 6X9 speakers, they threw in the dash adapter and the wire harness adapters. Check them out I was really pleased.

Don't laugh, but Wal Mart has a Pioneer Supertuner III AM/FM CD 45W X 4 speaker channels for $250. 00 and it will fit perfectly in your dash cut out. A friend of mine purchased one for his truck, and it sounds pretty good. The same exact stereo was offered by Crutchfield for almost $100. 00 more.
This will leave you $150. 00 in your budget for some speakers.

There's a service buletin floating around that says if the deluxe radio in your 93 looses a channel(mostly the left front door) then the fix is "Replace Radio". That's the main reason I went looking. Got a better deal than I probably deserve from a Jeep dealer on an AM/FM Cassette with CD controls(for an under-seat multiplayer) that plugs right in. This is out of a 98 or 99 Jeep where some one wanted a different radio installed when they bought it. Parts departments call these "Take Outs" for the obvious reason. With my bone stock speakers this unit sounds 10 times better than my original. Good Guys and Circuit city have a player unit and adapter at around $350. Faceplate and the main plug-in match on some and not on others. Look carefully before you buy. Had a bad cassette player in the wife's 94 gas 4X4. Did the same switch-out with that one too.

I went to Wally World and purchased the Pioneer SupertunerIII, model number DEH-P47DH for my truck ($250. 00). I also purchased the adaptor plugs for seven bucks, which made the installation a snap. The two adaptor plugs plug directly into the stock connector plugs. One plug is grey and the other is black. All of wire colors from the adaptor plugs matched perfectly with the wire colors to the stereo. All I did was simply match the colors and crimp on some solderless connectors. No adapter plate was required, the stereo was designed to fit perfectly in the cutout for Chryslers and GM's. The total time from start to finish took me two hours, the hardest part of the installation was removing the instrument bezel. The stereo sounds great.
I deliberately tried to hit bumps to get the CD player to skip, and I have yet to get it to skip.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll run down and check out one of those pioneers. That's inside my comfort zone price wise and maybe I'll grab another set of speakers while I'm there.
