I had mine replaced because of a minor leak, but at 4700 mi. it was still under warranty so no problems from the dealer. They also said no seal replacement available, steering box only. they also replaced the hose per TSB for vibration while they had it. Ask about that if your truck does not have it. No money out of pocket other than loss of time.

For those of you that have had to have your steering gear bos replaced: Did they replace the whole unit or like my dealer just the seals?

Anyone know if there is a tsb out for this? Ever since the dealer worked on mine it seams to "crab" when steering. 5 Star baby!!!

Replace my entire unit! In my opinion, the units are under spec'd for our trucks... . even with the new one, I can feel mine struggling when turning the tires at slow speeds..... I can envision another one within 10k miles...

Aside from 5 Star Common Sense (lack of) does anyone know why 9 out of 10 dealers appear to change out the steering gear box and the other replaces the seals only?

Who is right?

Probably because 9 out of 10 "dealers" do not have smart enough techs that know how to disassemble a box and get it put back together correectly! :(

Well in my case I got the 1 out of 10 guy who thought he was smart/good enough, but now that it still is leaking I am beginning to think I should have found a dumb part swapper.

Question still stands, does anyone know the facts of what the DC position is?

Replace or repair?

My truck had developed a popping noise under the front end, so I took it to the dealer to have them check it out. They say that my gear box is worn out. Truck has almost 39,000 on it. I called DC and they are going to replace the unit. My cost $100. 00. Not bad I guess cause it was leaking also.

Don't feel bad 42k, I have same problem

My 04. 5 is leaking at the steering box and at the hydroboost, and at the oil pan. 42,000 miles and it is looking like the exxon valdez under the hood.
