Squeaking Front Suspension While Turning

Just received my truck back from the dealer. Original complaint was a slight clunking coming up the steering shaft. Dealer replaced the LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT stating they found it worn. Good thing I purchased a 3/4 ton truck that sees 100% highway and its steering shaft is worn out in 28,000 miles. I guess if I start plowing snow I should stock up on these junk parts.

I hear ya on the so called heavy duty truck,On my 03 3500 I went thru ball joints at 24000 and again at 56000. all highway miles. On My 06 I just had tierod ends and steering stabilizer replaced at 22000, go figure:confused:

They have a micro u joint that looks like it came out of a Neon. Mine is a stickshift, so I turned off the engine on a 25 mph winding mountain road (downhill) to get a feel for what it would be like if I lost the engine. As long as it was in gear, the transmission turns the engine, but when I pressed the clutch, I almost went into the ditch. That steering takes a lot of effort without assist, so I think they should have used a much larger joint.

OF course, I just let go of the clutch and instantly got my steering back.

I feel sorry for those with an auto and oversize tires. No power steering, and only one or two power assisted brakings if you lose the engine.

But losing the belt would be equally bad with a stickshift.

The smaller freightliners have an emergency hydraulic pump, to keep brakes (and steering ?) going without the engine.

Ford Steering gear box????

Yeah my 06 just had the steering gear box and the two front axle hubs replaced under warranty. (@ 17k miles,no offroad). .

the interesting thing is when the tech looked at the ,just removed, steering box it said FORD on it! He crossref. the serial # and it's off a ford crown victoria????? ("Real heavy duty") WHAT is Dodge thinking?

Oh no, wait 'till this hits the Ferd sites! The bashing will never end...

I think it's the f350 steering box.
