did a search and could only find stuff on the autometer and isspro tachs. think i could make this work with the under dash wiring? have an opportunity to get one real cheap. oh yeah, to use the crank sensor do i have to add magnets? thanks

Tachs ?

From other posts I have read in the 92 model they started to include the tach in the wiring harness even if it did not have one installed, under the dash in the area of the steering column, I beleive. It seems they said that the pickup was already on the crank, at the front I think. You might try a search on wiring and guages. Mine is a 91 and so far I cannot find any hookup for a tach. Guess I will have to install the whole thing aftermarket. R C :{

It depends on what signal the tach wants. There is a diference between some of the tachs and what form of signal they need to function. Some that will work on the internal wiring won't work with the magnets or vice versa or something else. It is confusing at times to figure out what does what. If you have the wiring harness AND the CPS works correctly AND the connections are good AND the signal is correct strength the correct Autometer gauge will work. Too many ifs to tell. You will have to try it.

I had a SW tach for my 1st gen. IIRC it's programmable, you should be able to make it work.

It may require some trial and error, maybe a phone call or two to SW.

I was going to add a tach to my 91 by installing a mag pickup in the flywheel housing. This is the way all our power units are and also the larger engines in the large trucks.

i was wondering if i have to add magnets to the dampener for the cps to work. in those two little slots.

No, the slots themselves provide the trip action to generate the signal with the OEM crank sensor. Just make sure you set the air gap to specs of they have problems working correctly. I think its . 040-. 050 but not positive. FSM time.

Chriscumminsdiesel, what are you going to use for a "tone ring". I think the power units have a special flywheel to do that.
