Stick replacing Auto?

Does anyone have a source (or know of a vendor/shop) that has a comprehensive list of components I need to completely replace the auto in my 1996 4WD truck with the manual 5 speed? I have done a lot of this on gas vehicles and have found from experience that it is the little parts that eat the time up, not to mention the pocketbook.



It appears to me that it is perhaps easier and cheaper to buy a donor vehicle, but that would entail taking two trucks apart and putting two trucks back together. I just don't have the time or the ambition for that. Instead, I am willing to buy the parts... . I just need to know what I need.



Any suggestions???



I have owned Dodge Diesels since 1990 but am relatively new to the TDR forum. This forum is great... . I can't believe the knowledge available here. I have learned more here and in TDR than the shop manual I have. Sure glad to have it... ... .

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but make sure you go for a ride in a truck with a DTT auto before you take the plunge. That way you know what all your options are before you spend your money.

[ I have thought the same thing for a while. The truck was bought because a Ex wife who had to have a auto. Now she is gone. My truck is really nice and that is the reason it is still in my name, however when you put a pencle to the list of things you are going to have to buy. A standard transmission 1800$ for the fully splined mainshaft five speed, and the clutch and flywheel and the transfer case has to be changed or modifed. There is the pedals and the wiring harness and a different controller for the cruse. I have priced the converson and I still might do It, it is around 7500 or so. How ever I have thought if I just sell the truck and buy a 98 with a 5 speed then I would get the good pump and along with the 215 injectors. A better brake booster, hd transfer case and a quad cab, overload rear springs, swa bar on the rear differential. And the satisfaction of the being rid of a automatic.

If you could find a truck in a wrecking yard and you could get it cheap and you dont mind doing the work I think it would be great. I have been in the market for a 98 for a while but I am not going to pay 20k for a 98. LOL jimk

I changed mine over from an automatic to a 5 speed which really helped in towing my fiver. Jim Leonard (whose ad is in TDR business referral page) has the info you need. He is my main mechanic. People come from all over to have him work on their truck.

Thanks... . will probably learn to live with tha auto in this truck and maybe buy a used two-wheel drive 94-96 truck; not for a donor truck but for a toy to play with and a learning platform. They are comparatively cheap here if you look hard enough.
