Some members may have read my thread about how I finally got my Pyro working and how low my EGT's were. I think I have found a problem.

I have 4 Isspro gauges and the electrical (tach and trans temp) gauges work ok. I have always had trouble with my boost gauge with the needle sticking and even had it replaced when new. The second one isn't much better, but a light tap on the pod unsitcks it and I'm living with that. I've been watching my pyro for a week now and I caught it @ 500* while waiting at a long light. I think it can't be and out of habit I smack the pod- the needle drops! Now I know I can't trust this thing. Has anyone else had problems with Isspro gauges? I have to find out what I can do about this thing!

Mine appeared to be sticking at 0. A good whack would unstick it. Finally looked under the dash and one of the leads was up against a ground.

An egt gauge appears to be just a precise low volt meter. You ought to be able to get something from ISSPRO saying that X deg F = Y volts DC and check it with a digital volt meter. That would tell you if the low temps are a gauge, ground, or thermocouple problem.

Autometer does it too

My Autometer boost guage sticks too. One light whack and it is working again. It is kind of anoying though. My pyro works fine. I wonder if it is the humidity causing the guages to stick?

My boost gauge sticks after the truck sits a while also. Just needs a little bit of throttle to get it moving again. :D I've never had a problem with my tach, pyro, or trans temp gauge.

Sticking Pyro

Hi Gang,

I too had a sticking pyro. I had the gauge about three months when it began acting up. I had purchased the gauge from Diesel Engine Service in Texas and ONE call to the service department brought me a new gauge. (they even paid shipping!). Great service from those guys!

Nothing new for ISSPRO gauges. My boost gauge has stuck from day one. I think it is inherent to alot of boost gauges. A little tap and it is works.

My Tach didn't work at all when I first got it. I finally got another gauge from a speed and tach shop and installed it. Works fine now. Owner of shop said that he quit carring them because so many were bad right out of the box.

If I was going to install gauges again I would pick another brand, but for now I will live with what I have. When replacement time comes, new gauges will not be ISSPRO.

I had a chance to flip up the pod and have a look around. I found the (-) stud loose in the gauge case (vibration?) I gingerly snugged up and it seemed to be ok as far as tapping the gauge. Will roadtest tommorrow.

RamAZ, you're right. The next gauges will NOT be isspro's!

ISSPRO Gauge problems!

I'll second that about the ISSPRO gauges. I bought two (boost and pyro) from Big Don back a couple of months ago and I've had problems with mine also. The thermocouple seems to have taken a dump as it works sometimes and at others it doesn't, kinda. The first time I noticed it it was regestering 0, I stopped the truck, opened the hood, wiggled the wire that goes into the Pyro and it started working again. It will still stop working intermittently. I finally got in touch with Big Don (his email wasn't working for a couple of weeks) about the problem. He is suppose to ship me a new thermocouple next Monday. Add me to the list of unhappy ISSPRO gauge owners. I've been using Autometer gauges for ages on the race cars (have 12 of them now) and the only gauge I've ever had any problems with was a fuel gauge. If, or when, I have to replace the ISSPRO, I'll go back to Autometer... ... ... ... ... . Racer:rolleyes:

I have the Isspro gauges. Initially I had a problem with the boost gauge. I tracked it down to the the light bulb socket being the problem. When I removed the light bulb socket the gauge worked, but when I reinstalled it the needle would stick. It appears that the bulb socket was contacting something in the gauge that caused the needle to stick. I contacted Valley Fuel Injection (BD) and they supplied me with a replacement. Since then no more problems.

Not real happy with Isspro/Banks either

Same problems you all have, the pyro needs a good rap to get it to drop below 300, never ever gets below 100 even at -40 outside. Boost gauge was sticky for about 4 months then was fine.

The Autometers in the 93 seem to be alot more of what I wanted. The pyro actually moves between shifts, wow. And is at 0 in the morning if its cold. Should have coughed up for them from the get go. They were actually just the same price as the Isspro now that I think of it. Oh well, live and learn.

I'm with Racer Brown, I think my thermocouple is dying or pinched where I went down the A-pillar. No problems with boost but need to get ambitious and fix the other problem. ISSPRO's also. :(

I think (AIK) has something with the light bulb sockets!

Mine hung a little at first and I bought replacement sockets to hold the bulbs #194,(so I could buy green ones. )

It has two wire socket(better ground )

Anyway since I did that my pryo and boost has been rock solid.

I paid more in shipping then the sockets cost(Bought from ISSpro direct on-line)

It worked for me ,anyhow

My Isspro Pyro & boost stick too, and was considering switching to SPA dual digital gauges is there any problem with these fogging or sticking. Also are they as easy to read as the Needle type gauges.

I also would like to hear from more people who are running the SPA gauges. I have limited my choices down to either SPA or Westach if I can get some good feedback from other owners of these gauges. I am not really an Autometer guy and with the problems others are having with Isspro, I am leaving these as a last resort.

Thanks,

Eric O.

My ISSPRO boost and EGT gauges work fine, no sticking at all. Maybe you need to bury the throttle more often to get them to swing full arch? :p

However, my first EGT gauge had problems with erratic readings. In turned out to be a bad thermocouple. After replacing it, it has worked perfectly. I'd buy ISSPRO again, no complaints.

Eric, the Westach's like the SPA's just taking getting used to. I personally like the digitals. I never thought I would, but after running them so long, I like them more. The alerts are great, so you're not glued to the gauge.

I'll try to post my setup tonight when I get home and can snap a digital picture.

I also have the ISSPRO EGT and boost gauges. Had them installed about 11 months ago, as soon as I brought the truck home. About a month ago, I started noticing the EGT gauge was reading what I felt was rather low, as I know where it usually reads on my drive home from work going up hill, so I lightly whacked the gauge, and the needle jumped up almost 150*! Now, whenever I think it is reading too low, if I whack it, it usually jumps up around 100*.

I am about to order a set of SPA gauges from HVAC and see if I can get them installed during the DEPO show in Tulare, CA the weekend of October 13/14th.

And now that I have my MagView covers for both diff's, I will be getting SPA gauges for rear diff temp, engine oil temp, and eventually fuel pressure as well :D

Isspro gauges

Isspro has had a problem for 15 years with sticking pointers. Seems the paint on the pointer sticks to the stop pin in "0" position. A tap shakes it loose. Had this on an '84 Suburban w/ Banks turbo.
