Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) still doesn't run "BUT"

ok still trying to get it to run, as long as I hold key and floor peddle, as soon as I let go of key stalls. While I'm holding key she runs but real ruff, blows smoke like crazy.



Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check your timing. It sounds like it fires only as long as the starter is turning it.

Ive replaiced some fuel pumps on 8. 3L cummins symptons were thay would not start if you held a rag with diesel over the intake or shot it with a small amount of ether it would start up. Once it was warm thay would fire right up. So if your confident your timing is right and the motor has comp. You can try this and I personnaly do not recomende either but it woks in moderation. Also you might want to have your inj pop tested. Think of the basics fuel and comp air make fire.

DO NOT use ether unless grid heaters are disconnected. Try pulling the shutoff relay up by hand and wire it up if it wont stay up by itself just to test the relay.

I flipped the hood on one of the firetrucks last night and went over the whole relay senerio with one of the mechanics. Today or tomorrow I will try doing that. If it doesn't work, he'll come by and give me a hand. Also a fellow member lives in the next town,

and offered his help if I need it. So I should be in good shape.
