Hi,

Do our trucks still need to run the CJ-4 crank oil if the DPF is gone and the EGR delete is done? Wouldn't the engine be like a 5. 9 as far as oil is concerned?

Thanks for any input on this.

Cheers,

Chris

the problem is the source of ci4 oil is drying up, all of the hpcr need a good bypass oil filter because of the soot caused by the third injection pulse

Chris,

No you won't need the CJ oil if you eliminate the DPF. The CI + oil is a better oil from all I've read .

Jim

My 07 owners manual claims the 5. 9 and 6. 7 engines both call for the CJ-4 oil

IIRC it was somethign with carbon or ash build up in the engines

Thanks for all the replies.
Jmorse, that is what I figured as well. I will be switching to CI-4 oil as soon as I get my deletes done. From what I have read on various forums - the CI-4 is better oil than the CJ stuff. I am looking forward to cleaner oil with the EGR delete. As it stands, my oil level is insanely dirty after only 3500 Km and the level is increasing.

The dealer didn't even change the oil when I brought my truck in with the complaint. They just said to monitor it and keep them posted. I suspect it is due to Diesel dilution because of the 5th injection event (DPF burn). If the dealer can't deal with my concerns over having a few extra quarts of oil in my crank, I don't have much use for him or the warranty. Time to take the Dodge out of my Cummins like I did with my 99 5. 9l.

I found Walmart's house brand oil with CI-4 rating, not CJ, just a few days ago.

I've stocked up and have about thirty gallons in the garage. Better still, I bought most of it a while back before oil prices have gone through the roof.

I'd like to do the delete, but I don't want to void my warranty just yet. Also, I haven't had any issues with the engine and no CEL's. Only one false TPS light that reset itself.

thing is that those that have deleted the DPF and EGR have been telling us that there oil is clearer now than on there 3rd gen 5. 9.

Its going to be a week or so before the EGR is gone from my truck so i can not say from personal knowledge on this. Just hear say

Also i know one fellow ran the Ci oil after he did the delete and got a code, something about the engine can detect what type of oil is in the crank case. can anybody back that up, anybody with first hand experience on this
