What is it your having trouble with? What part? Do you have a picture you wanna use? If so email it to me or post it here.

After I "check" the picture to make sure its within specs (or modify it) I'll dend you step by step in regards how to do it.

I am walking out the door to work now tho... ... ... ... ...

Hey

CCahill your avatar is there!

You need to go to your TDR user cp and enable the box to show avatars, its an option in your control panel :)

Sounds like the administrator took more time to tell ya to figure it out o your own than if he would have just told ya how to do it.

BTW, I, too am seeing your avatar.

I nominate Kat for new Administrator... he tries to help!

This is weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I first posted this, there was no Avatar..... Hence my post... .

Thanks to "danandme", "Kat", and Bryan..... It's now a done deal, and I learned something in the process...

Now... I'm currently having problems posting a photo... I was able to do it in the past, but now the photo addy comes up by itself...

Bryan... ... I don't like it either when I can't e-mail directly to the person... doe's the administration have to be privey to all of our posts?

Theres a coupl'a other changes in the new site that I'm not happy with either... but all in all, they did a nice job..... even if we *****ed, I don't think they would listen anyway... .

Again. much thanks to all for taking your time to respond.....

Are you asking if you have an "animated" avatar if it is animated on the users computer?

If thats what your asking then yes thats true. My lil Calvin is jumping up and down on my computer, I assume its doing the same on your computer?

Is yours supposed to be animated? (its not)

Well when you finally "Added" an avatar... it inserts it in all of your posts, old and new. If I changed mine then it would change in all the "old" posts as well to reflect the new avatar.

Show me an example link of a photo you want to post. Using the [ i m g ] tag should work like always? Are you using PhotoPoint?

The email is that way to prevent "mining" of the TDR email addresses with unsolictied email (junk mail). As far as I know we are stuck with it. The adminstrators don't "See" the email you send. It just "hides" the email address to everyone, but allows it to go through. THe only thing I don't like about that part is it doesn't "save" a copy of the email in your sent folder.

What are the other changes you are not happy with? Chances are its something that can be changed in the user settings. And its not that we "Don't listen". THe TDR "bought" this software and it has some flexabilty, but some things we can not change since it was not written by us. Seriously list your gripes... ... ... .

Here's what was really said:

>>>How do I add an avatar to my user name?

To which I answered:

>>>Click the "FAQ" button on the forums for the answer to this and other Frequently Asked Questions.

Then you responded:

>>>Thank you for your help... . Now I know what an Avatar is..... But back to my original ?... . How do I do it?... This is not answered in the FAQ... . If you follow the FAQ page, it explains what it is, but not how to do it...

To which I answered:

>>>Click User CP, then go to the settings section. Go to the bottom of that page and you'll see a link to the Avatar section that can be used to upload your graphic.

--------------------

Then you proceeded to blame me because you could not get a photo working:

>>>So... ... Did the Administration delete my photo? Or What?

--------------------

I NEVER said to "figure it out on your own" nor did I ever imply it. I was helpful from the very start and answered all your questions. I don't appreciate the blatant misrepresentation.

Animation

When I download your avatar I only show one frame in my animation software. As far as I can tell, there are no animation restrictions in the avatars. Try emailing the GIF directly to me so I can take a closer look.

No, we don't. Though I suppose if we really wanted to we could always do direct queries on the database. Frankly, I've got better things to do that read private messages. The server stores email as plain text, and the other site on this server has over 200 users with email addresses. In 2 years of hosting email accounts, I've never looked into other's private email --- its unethical. I have, however, run automated scans for viruses and very old unretrieved emails. The system deletes those and in those cases, I notify the user.

Every concern has been addressed and when its feasible from a technical or policy standpoint, we make changes. :) (recent example, when it became feasible, I made changes to the search this weekend). *****ing, however, is rarely addressed and probably never will be --- it usually results in similar responses! As the old saying goes, you catch more flies with honey. :D

Ken... . Some of us on the site are not as computor savey as you are, and do require, or ask, for a little "handholding", and a step by step method of accomplishing certain things. I didn't mean to offend your or you computor skills. . I was just looking for some help from "real people", instead of a FAQ, that I just didn't get.

I was lucky enough to get help from site members, with a step by step method, and it worked the first time I did it.

Again, I want to thank "danandme" for this... . I've also aquirred quite a few skills from Bryan Bremmerman, and Kat, and I'm also thankful for that..... Once more I didn't mean to push your buttons... . Back to one of my issues... If I had access to direct member E-mail, I wouldn't have to post this here.

Big huggy now!!!!!!!!:D

Email

I believe I did attempt to give you step-by-step in my second email, at least up to the actual page where the uploads are handled. :) Had my last email not been detailed enough (the one pointing out where to find the upload link), you should have let me know, I am more than willing to hand-hold users but I walk a fine line:

If I go into too much detail, listing each micro-step, I end up taking 30 minutes to respond to one email (difficult when you get over 200 emails per day) and in most cases, that's more information than the user needs. 95% of the time, the user simply needs to know where to find something (which is why I gave steps in my second email to get to the upload screen). If the user needs more than just the location of something (ie, usage of the item in question once they get there), I'll take further steps to answer those questions but I only know about it if I'm informed. I have to balance the needs of answering each and every email daily with the available time.

Anyway... . let's move on... its not a big deal.

Concerning access to email, you do have it, IF and only if the user allows it (by default its turned on for TDR members). Click the user's Profile button under their posts, then click "Click here to email CCahill" if will allow you to email them. It doesn't show their address at this, point, just a box for the text. This is the systems latch ditch effort to stop email address harvesters. When the user replies to your email, it will be directly via email and you'll see their address then.

Later... .....
