ok so i thought i had found the problem with my truck surging. . i thought it was the transfer pump. so i replaced it with the new in tank one. but when out on the test drive i felt it surge again. it is not as bad and does not do it as often now but still there anything anyone has to say about this would be nice to hear thanks

I had a problem with some surging, and I traced it back to the pressure box I was running at the time. Unplugged the box and surge went away. I think it had something do do with the harness. I've been told adding dielectric grease to the connectors may cure the problem. (Only have heard this about the Quad boxes, not Edge, TS, etc, but who knows, it may work). At least unplug the box to see if there's a difference.

Wally, just curious who performed the work? Was it a Dealer, Shop, or Yourself? I know a guy that has the same problem as you. He has done the same stuff you have to try and fix it also. I am very very confused as to how 2 trucks can have identical problems. Maybe you guys should talk to eachother and see if you can figure it out. :-laf :D

Jason, my 03 was surging at highway speeds yesterday (60 mph) in 6th with my juice w/attitude on. To make it stop I had to turn off the juice (0 setting- not disconnected). Funny thing was it would only do it at 60. It seemed to throttle up and down on its own. Not rapid but couple seconds at a time. I'm gunna get my hands on a DRBIII to see what fuel pressure reads as well as the other sensors... Let me know if my truck's deal sounds like yours.

Jason, as some others have said, I think it is the Edge that is causing the problem.

I awaiting the delivery of my third Edge box as the first 2 caused the problems you are describing. The second one had a surging problem at 1800 rpm regardless of gear, AND a BAD knocking problem...

If this one fails, I'll be posting looking for an alternative to the Edge... 3 strikes and you're OUT.

I've also experienced surge issues - I traced mine to the electrical connectors that my XZillaraider plugs in to. Quad sent me a new wiring harness, but it still does it periodically. If I wiggle the wires, it will go away. I think there is a possibility that these boxes accentuate the issue. Maybe our trucks had a bad batch of connectors that just dont make good contact all the time.

well i had edge send me a new box when it started. when is got the new one awhile ago it was still doing it. so then i checked my fuel pressure and it was at 10 psi but when i did a volume test it was about 300 mL low of what it should be. so i replaced the transfer pump with an intake unit and still did it. the only other thing i have to go but is that my edge moniter when set on thrtl. is reading 100% all the time so i am going to keep looking for the problem. also mine will surge at any speed just as long asit is in that 1800 to 1900 rpm range.

Even with the box and associated harnesses completely disconnected?

well i have not had taken the box and un hooked it all the way. i was going to but it had gotten very cold here latley so i am going to try unhooking everything.

i've seen that problem a few times, it could also be your relief valve not working or weakened, dumping rail pressure back into the tank? try the box first!! :-laf

Can you see a boost change with the surge? Mine will jump from about 8-9psi up to about 14 when it surges. I am almost comletely convinced that some of us have electrical connectors that dont work well with aftermarket boxes that plug into the map sensor and fuel rail sensors (those are the connectors on mine that when wiggled, motor operation returns to normal).

Same Problem

I have the same problem.

I have not had time to work on it though. Been building a barn.

I have noticed it more when towing on a hilly/curvey road. Thought it was trans. Then noticed when I was taking it easy yesterday. Same RPM's 1800-1900?
