I read on Dieselram that the last day to order the 5. 9L was 4 December, and that as of 8 December, no more 5. 9L trucks were being built. I ordered a new MC with the 5. 9/48RE on 29 Nov. AAFES car sales accepted the order on 5 December. According to the order tracker website, the order for my truck was sent to the DC factory on 11 Dec.
A guy on the Dieselram forum ordered a MC about a week before I ordered mine at the dealer with the 5. 9/48RE. He just got a call from the dealer saying that the his order will be converted to the 6. 7/68RFE and that he will end up having to pay more for the truck.
My salesman at AAFES Car Sales (military car buying program available to peope stationed overseas in the military) swears up and down that I'm going to get my 5. 9 but that conflicts with nearly everything I've been reading in the BBs about when the 5. 9L production stops and the 6. 7L production begins. I guess I don't believe what he's telling me.
Given the amount of $$$ I'm spending on this rig, would be nice to know for sure which motor I'm getting. No one so far can give me any conclusive answers. The good thing is that if it ends up being the 6. 7/68RFE, I will pay the same low price for the 5. 9 I ordered.
Who's got the final answer on this? Who should I call?
