After I do an oil change (Rotella) I can smell Rotella for quite a while coming from the vent tube.

Does that sound normal?

yep, i think that there is actually an older TSB on it. As far as I can tell it is just an annoyance and not a problem.

My buddy has an 01 or 02 and he says he never noticied it on his truck. He runs whatever oil is cheapest, usually the Napa brand.

It's bad enough a few people walking by while I was idleing my truck mentioned it.

Now you know why it is commonly referred to as "Rosmella".

This is normal. Yes, you probably should re-locate the breather bottle before you end up with dirt stuck all in your radiator, and over the whole front of your motor. Alot of people have been extending the breather hose down under the motor along the frame. That eliminates most of the oil breather fumes. Do some creative searches and you'll find alot of good ideas on this problem.

Swap to Delo and the smell goes away. That is my main reason for running it, I hated the Rosmella smell.

The first 2 changes after I bought mine it smelled really bad. Bought a hose barb and some 3/4 inch hose eliminated the breather bottle and I haven't smelled it since.

Actually, that was one of the first things I did when I bought it last summer. The vent goes all the way to the back of the cab, in front of the fuel tank.

Never heard Rotella called Rosmella before.

Honestly the smell doesn't really bother me. I was just curious if it was a normal thing or that I should be worried. I notice after about 1000miles or so on the oil the smell goes away.

I've been using Rotella for many years and it smells no different than other motor oils. Someone started this rumor a few years back, so I guess if your imagination is good enough, you could probally smell anything anyone sugested to you.

Mmmm... ... Rotellaaaahh.....

We get it in 55 gal drums. It smells like roses that way... . :D

I remember when I first got the truck I was checking everywhere for leaks... LOL. You'll get used to it.

I don't know. All I know is I use Rotella, only thing I've ever used and I can smell it fairly strong. Like if my window is down at a stoplight I smell it.

Maybe other oils do it too. I just wanted to know if it was a normal thing.

Shortshift, thanks for those links. I didn't realize it was something people already had posted about.
