Hello,

I just purchased a Mag-Hytec Double deep trans pan and in preparation for

installing it am going to buy more fluid. Was at the dealer on Sat. to purchase something else and thought I would buy the fluid as well. The price as around $8 a quart, when I asked the parts guy if it was synthetic he said that it was not and that these trucks did NOT come synthetic from the factory. 8$ a quart seems high for non-synthetic atf.

I thought that they came with synthetic, does anyone know for sure?

My truck only has about 12k miles on it, I have a case of amsoil atf in the garage and was think about using it to replace the portion of the fluid that will drain out when I remove the pan. Any thought here?

Thanks,

ATF+4 is synthetic. Go to Checkers Auto or Autozone and find some Valvoline ATF+4 full synthetic for $4 qt. Valvoline makes the Mopar oil.

Why wouldn't you use the Amsoil? I was planning on doing the same thing as your doing but I was going to buy some Amsoil.

Wal-mart also sells their super tech brand of ATF+4. I'll bet it's the same formula as Mopar brand since Mopar licensed the ATF+4 and other companies can not produce it without Mopars consent.

I just installed a Mag-Htec deep transmission pan and used Amsoil Universal ATF, the install was easy and the Amsoil fluid is all synthetic. If you can afford the Amsoil I recommend using it over ATF +4.

Good Luck and your going to love your new transmission Pan... . Oo.

Just installed a PML deep pan and used Mopar ATF+4 I got at the local WalMart for 4. 49 a quart. The Valvoline at the auto parts store was 4. 89... used a friction modifier as well hoping to avoid torque converter shudder. If you use a "universal" ATF I think the friction modifier is a must, but those more knowlegable will correct me if I am wrong.....

Love the PML pan, by the way.

EXACTLY! Save some money. ATF +4 is a Mopar licensed fromula transmission fluid. It comes under many brand names, using the same patented formula. It's so refreshing to hear someone speak the truth!!
Cheers
Mike

Why, Mopar created the ATF+4 for thier automatic transmissions and you think Amsoil makes it better than the creator? what is this based on?

Thought you might like to read it for yourself.

:) PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

AMSOIL Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) exceeds the performance requirements for domestic and foreign automatic transmission fluid applications. AMSOIL ATF provides automatic transmissions, power steering units and hydraulic equipment with excellent lubricating protection and better performance over a wider temperature range than conventional automatic transmission fluids.

Resists Oxidation and Thermal Degradation

AMSOIL ATF resists thermal and oxidative degradation better than conventional transmission fluids, protecting clutches, planetary gears, valves, pumps and seals from damaging sludge and varnish deposits. AMSOIL ATF helps prevent component overheating and ensures cooler, smoother transmission operation.

Provides Low Temperature Protection

AMSOIL ATF outperforms petroleum fluids in low temperature fluidity. In fact, AMSOIL ATF offers twice the cold temperature fluidity required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications. AMSOIL ATF provides easier starting, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting and improved fuel economy.

Antiwear Protection

AMSOIL ATF provides smooth shifting and long, trouble-free transmission life. In addition, the

antiwear additive package makes AMSOIL ATF an excellent lubricant in other hydraulic systems. In tests designed to measure wear characteristics under severe service and high pressure operating conditions, AMSOIL ATF far exceeds the requirements of hydraulic equipment manufacturers.

Extends Drain Intervals

AMSOIL ATF is a stable formulation that lasts longer in service than conventional ATFs. It maintains its viscosity, friction and lubricating properties for extended periods of time, even under severe conditions. AMSOIL ATF maximizes transmission performance and service life while reducing maintenance costs through longer drain intervals.

APPLICATIONS

AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid is completely compatible with other synthetic and petroleum automatic transmission fluids. AMSOIL ATF is a universal, multi-functional fluid that greatly reduces the need for specialized fluid inventories and the possibilities of misapplication. AMSOIL ATF is recommended for transmission, hydraulic and other applications requiring any of the following specifications:

GM DEXRON® II, III & VI

Ford MERCON®, MERCON® V & SP

Chrysler ATF+ through ATF+4®

Honda Z-1 (Not for use in CVT transmissions)

Toyota Type T and T-IV

Mitsubishi/Hyundai Diamond SP II & III

Allison C-3, C-4

Caterpillar TO-2

Voith G607, G1363

ZF TE-ML 14A, 14B & 14C

Mercedes Benz 236. 1, 236. 2, 236. 6, 236. 7, 236. 9

BMW 7045E

NAG 1 & 2

JWS 3309

LT 71141 (ESSO)

Nissan Matic D, J & K

Vickers I-286S & M-2950S

Excellent for power steering units that use ATF.

Not for use in CVT transmissions.

SERVICE LIFE

AMSOIL Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is recommended for use up to 50,000 miles under severe service* and up to 100,000 miles under normal service* or according to the vehicle manufacturer recommended intervals, whichever is longer. AMSOIL recommends thoroughly draining the transmission and flushing with new AMSOIL ATF to achieve a minimum 90% purity of new transmission fluid. Drain intervals may be extended further with oil analysis.

Like I said, if you can afford it, then go with Amsoil... If not go with ATF+4... :)

Here is some info on the Amsoil ATF.

DEXRON 111H/DEXRON VI require the Vickers Vane Pump test (ASTM D-2882) to be <10. Amsoil tested at 2. 8.

DEXRON 111H/DEXRON VI OXIDATION test requirement (THOT) TURBO HYDRAMATIC OXIDATION TEST is 450 hours.

The amsoil ATF is 900 PLUS hours (2 times longer than the required)

These are very important tests for ATF.

I'm not trying to tell you to use amsoil, I like it, therefore I use it! I see the difference between amsoil ATF and ATF+4 same as with gear oil and engine oil. Use what you want, but I am getting the feeling you have a bitter taste in your mouth against amsoil. The only way to really tell the difference is to use it for yourself, but for someone who hasn't used it and is willing to knock it, that's something I don't understand.

BTW, I am not an amsoil dealer, I am a product user, nothing more. But, when I see and use a great product I believe in spreading the word about it, be it amsoil, or a anyother type of product.

I always believe in giving people options and allowing them to make up their own minds, that's why I say if you can afford it, give it a try, if not that's okay too...

Good luck... :)

Ok, what does it do better than the Mopar ATF+4, what differences have you seen?

I have used Amsoil products, I have no problem with them, I just find it funny how people say Amsoil is better than everything else with no facts to back it up other than Amsoil saying so.

Get ready for the Amsoil attack. Data to support their viewpoint is readily available and will soon commence. The amsoil dealers will defend their products because they are completly loyal and sold on the benefits of amsoil. Kinda like calling someones baby ugly.

That being said, I prefer theMopar ATF 4 route. Saves money, easier more convenient to purchase, no hype or fact or fiction, simple. To the amsoil crowd, your baby's not ugly, it's just yours.

I tried mopar, amsoil,& royal purple in that order. Currently everything is royal purple. My best mpg. so far is 28mpg. with rp,but the truck also has more miles now,45,000. My test loops are approx. 30 mi. round trip,no traffic lights & an egg between my foot & pedal. I used the overhead just for comparison, probablly not real accurate or scientific, but rpurple seems to be some slick stuff. Real world operating differances between all three were insignificant. ::)
