While cleaning my K&N Re-0880 on thursday night I had to run to the store for something. So I slapped the stock air box and filter back in and took off. WOW does that make a difference. I have not run it since I added the EZ and gauges. The EGT doesn't really peak any higher but it gets there faster. Also the needle drops about half as fast when you let off. I normaly pull into my driveway at 300* Pre Turbo. Stock air box I pulled in at 400* and waited for the needle to slowly drop. I did kind of enjoy the lack of noise a little bit, so i put the silencer ring back in. The Re-0880 with the ring in has a very nice but not to loud whistle. I thought I would post this for any of you considering an Re-0880 filter but can't decide.

bad , the stock filter housing is a winter only item , saw a 10hp decrease on the dyno switching from the RE-0880 and the stock housing with stock filter , picked 9 of it back up by propping the lid open .

Click the link in my signature for a pic of a re-0880 and prefilter installed in my truck.

It makes the intake louder, it was really bad with out the silencer ring, so I put it back in and I can live with it now.

bad340 , basicly yes , i made 2 dyno pulls at 370 and 371 RWHP( this was with a DTT 91% TC UNLOCKED) , got back on the dyno later , only difference was the RE-0880 was not there , made a pull that was 360RWHP , we collectively scratched our heads and i remembered that i had the stock airbox with stock factory filter back in , i borrowed the RE-0880 filter from massdiesel , he had left , popped open the airbox lid and used the stock filter to hold it open , hood up , dyno pull 369RWHP , when i did a pull with my PE in level 2 it did 340RWHP with stock box , lid open on that level was 354RWHP , a 14 hp gain ???? (for the nay sayers , TED J. was standing there watching this) .

the stock air box is restrictive to say the least . i have my own RE-0880 now , its a bit loud with the silencer ring in , i'm working on building an enclosure for it that will be piped to an outside forced air source .

The RE-0880 is just a filter, it replaces the stock airbox alltogether. Lots of places sell them, i got mine from www.summitracing.com also www.jannettyracing.com sells them. They are about 50 bucks and make a huge imporvement in turbo spoolup and acceleration. The truck will be louder, especially if you have the silencer ring removed. But i like the way it sounds. If you drive off road alot or in really dusty areas, order a part number 25-0880 prefilter that fits around the RE-0880 filter.
The only down side to using just a 0880 filter is you will suck in alot of engine compartment heat. A Psychotty induction will eliminate that and is HIGHLY recomended to increase power and lower EGT even further. You can also go with a heat shield from Jannetty which will help too.

It will replace the stock air box or will it just drop in? I'll buy one today if it's as easy as that. Thanks

You just take your stock airbox completely out and it attatch it to the end of the stock hose from the turbo. If you dont buy the psychotty setup, you need to go to Home Depot and get a piece of 4" pvc pipe to attatch it to the hose. Its real easy though.

I just have mine slid into the turbo hose. Just pushed it in and tighted the clamp down. You have to do some serious work to pull it out without loosening the clamp. It was meant to be temporary becuase I didn't have any 4" pipe. But you know how that temporary stuff goes lol

Hmm, Interesting. So have any of you that have a re-0880 now, ever had a K&N for the stock filer box? Thats what I have now and even that makes a huge differeance. How much more of a difference would it make from the stock K&N to the re-0880?? The only thing I dont like is the sucking of engine compartment air. Does it really matter that much? What about in 100 degree summer heat? I dont really want to cut a hole in my fire wall. hmmmmmmm ??

The hole in the firewall is no big deal. I used a cordless drill and it took 10 seconds. If you evev want to get rid of it, just cut a piece of aluminum flashing to size and silicone it over the hole, then fold the insulation back into place. Simple as that. With the Psychotty kit, you will not have to even worry about the underhood temps. The drop in EGT and increase in power is worth the 4" hole. If you still do not want to cut the hole, Call Jannetty Racing and order there heat shield kit (about 40 bucks) which makes a wall between the air filter and the turbo and therefore cuts down on the heat transfer substaintially. It comes in bare aluminum which you can polish. I painted mine BBQ black to match the engine compartment. I have had the K&N in the stock airbox, it does help, but the fenderwell boot is still a mojor restriction.
No matter what filter you use in the stock airbox, K&N, Amsoil, etc, it will still not come close to the RE-0880 filter.

WHY not just run 3" tubing out the stock hole in the fender wall(where the old air box breather was) then bend it around the corner and under the antenna wire then down to the bottom of the passenger door where there is really cool air? no cutting either, real qiuck and easy! if you wan't more cool air then pull out the piece of foam(it's there to help keep noise down) dodge puts in the gap between the passenger door and the fender. you can get a ton of fresh cool air that way! i used flex tubing(black) and you can not even see it!

2 problems with drawing air through 3" tubing from behind the front wheel. First, 3" tubing is very restrictive, considering the engines inlet is almost 4. 5 inches. Also, adding any ducts on before the filter will also further decrease airflow and volume. If anything, try and run TWO 3" ducts. Second sucking air from behind the wheel can lead to alot of problems with dirt since your air source is so low to the ground and the tires kick up sand and dirt.
The Psychotty kit or Todd's kit will eliminate both those problems by not decreasing the intakes size or increasing its length and also, drawing air from below the windshield which virtually eliminates the road sand problem.
