I agree wholeheartedly.

I found that a drop in K&N was not fitting good in the factory air box... and this would let dirt past.

A manufacturer of engines would not endorse another brand of filters other then the ones they oversee also.
 
The above posts suggest that Scott is using aFe filters now. IMHO they are extremely good for their basic type. They are giving us a seminar at May Madness, and I recommend attending it if possible. I am presently running the aFe megacannon or whatever it is called with my Pius MSB turbo. AFE also has a new higher filtration media that should be just the thing for dusty environments.



Ram air has been proven to be a benefit for the last 40+ years on the street and track. Unfortunately the afe allows more noise than the stock filter into the cab, especially when a hole is cut in the cowl. That would be the main issue to think about. The positive pressure feed and cool air are very positive things.
 
For nearly two yrs now aFe has been used.

For folks concerned about the noise you have the option to use just the fender inlet with the Scotty II and open the cowl when maximum egt reduction is required.
 
IIRC the filter efficiency tests cited by AFE, K&N etc only test the media NOT the actual filter & housing. These tests do not account for a poorly designed seal between the filter and air box

I believe you are correct, Brian. We don't recommend the use of the drop-in filters, as we have yet see any EGT reductions from their use. The cone style filters, that are clamped to the turbo inlet hose, have a great seal. The fit is very tight on the 4" necks.

Just having a stock filter in a stock box doesn't guarantee it's not letting dirt though. I've seen several stock filters leak around the edge seal due to warped air boxes. You can see dust streaks on the clean air side of the box leading right to the leak. If I were going to run the stock setup I'd treat it just like a K&N and use grease on the filter edge gasket.

Thanks but I've been using a different approach. If the air is dirty I don't drive my truck :D Good idea on the seal illflem ;)
