who out there is running the stock hydraulic systems with there aftermarket clutches? how does it hold up to the added pressure?

I didn't want to risk it with the stock system so I installed the upgraded hydraulics when I installed the DD clutch. The only issue was that I had to shim behind the clutch interlock switch on the upgraded assembly so that my truck would start (so that the pedal would hit the switch contacts when depressed). When I get motivated I may jumper out the switch so that I can start the truck without having to press the pedal.

I have always understood it to be a must do on the G56's regardless if it is a single or dual. On the NV5600's you only upgrade if going to a dual disk

The new upgraded pressure plate conFE I upgraded the hydrolics.

The stock master/slave didn't push the clutch in enough, made shifting extreamly stiff.

I got the adjustable master/slave from SBC. I have it adjusted with one nut that fits the coarse thread (1/4" maybe?). It's something I had In my bucket of nuts and bolts and it just happened to be PERFECT. clutch engagement is near the top and peddle weight is lighter then stock (due to angle).

As you adjust the distance on the SBC deal, you adjust the heavyness of the peddle due to the angle.

I took my father with me to an RV parts store the other day and he wanted to wait in the truck while I went inside. I got stuck waiting on the counter man to finish up with another customer when my father walked in and handed me the trucks keys saying the truck got hot inside and he reached over and tried to start it for ac but it wouldnt start. I looked out in the parking lot at the RV that my truck would have been planted in if the clutch switch had not prevented the truck from starting. I had thought about wiring around the clutch switch but now, I'm happy its there.

2 questions.

1. why is the truck parked in gear. You have a working parking break do you not?

2. If you dad was going to sit shotgun and wait, why didn't you just let the truck idle for that 10 minutes? :)

i always park in gear, the factory park brake sucks, one time i had a cable fail and my bronco hit my dads boat, he wasnt very impressed, i wont take that chance again...

i do both set the parking brake and leave it in gear. but i am the only one who drives my truck.

more intrsted in the guys who have done the g56 conversion and left the stock hydro's for a while.

its about a 50/50 deal... . some trucks get by fine with the stock hydro's and smoe dont... . i didnt have the chance to drive mine with them cause i didn't wanna get the clutch in the truck and find out that i couldn't get it into gear...

There is another guy that i know that tried it and he had a hard time getting it in gear cause the stock hydro's didn't have enough throw... .

I bought the SB ungrade and love it... . Its adjustable so you can adjust it to where you want the clucth to release at... . more towards the top or more on the bottom... .

Jason to answer your first question I have always parked in gear and set the brake about half way to the floor to keep it from rolling on its own. I really dont think it will stop it if it is cranked in gear. The second question, he insisted on turning the truck off and waiting. The egt's were 300 deg so I turned her off and rolled the windows down and left the key on aux with the radio on. I dont know where you came up with 10 mins it was about 30 mins which neither of us had suspected it would take. I was just making a positive comment on my experience with clutch safety switch. I am the only one who drives this truck and if you would of asked about the clutch safety switch the day before I would of said who needs it and wire around it. It safed my truck and the humiliation Im sure my elderly father would of felt if the truck had started in gear at hit something after all he taught me how to drive over 40 years ago.

I said 10 minutes as a general number.

As far as starting in gear. My 93 xj stock would do that, and I have start it and it was stopped by a parking cinder block. Talk about scary, when your starting the motor from out side the door...

were are all of you guys with g56 trans's and upgraded clutches at?

ok even if you have the hydro kit let me know what you think since the upgrade?

thanks

Robert

Good news on that - I went to start my truck and let it warm up, So I pushed the parking brake down with my hand (standing outside the truck) and reached over the shook the shifter - thought it was out of 1st gear. So I reached in and turned the key as I held down the clutch with my right foot (still standing outside), well much to my amazement when I lifted my foot the truck lurched forward about 3 inches and coughed&died. (I know, I know - complete brain fart)

Thank for the lord as in front of my truck was a garage with my jet-ski's, etc in it.

Why in this world would you solely rely only on the parking brake to hold a 7200+ lb truck ? :--)

Greg

lets keep our fingers crossed i will be installing the clutch tonite, when i get off work. i cant wait. i hope every thing works out i plan on going to the track on sunday.

I put the CON FE in my 03 when it was new and the stock hydros were fine. Then about a month ago it started getting difficult to shift into reverse and second from a stop. After talking to Peter at SBC and talking it over with my transmission shop we decided the stock hydraulics were failing. Of course I ordered the HD hydraulics from SBC and all has been well ever since.

one would assume the stock factory parking break could hold a stock empty truck on a driveway incline...

i always park my truck with the parking brake on and in gear. . the only time i park with it in neutral, is if i have it running and i am within eye sight of it. .
