I have an '02 HO w/ 6speed (of course). I'm thinking about doing some upgrades. My question is how much power can my sotck clutch handle. My plans are for an Edge EZ and the 275 injectors. I'm not pulling any heavy loads. And if I do they won't be that often. Will my stcok clutch hold up. Or will I just smoke it right away?

I have a 5 speed with the engine mods you want to get. My stock clutch didn't hold up very well and I didn't abuse it. The modifications didn't fry the clutch inasmuch as they accelerated the demise. Many thousands of miles before I BOMB'ed the truck, I took a long trip pulling a 31 ft Nomad TT. After that trip, the clutch started to chatter. Being that I probably needed a learning curve on driving a diesel powered truck(this was my first, low end torque, etc. ) and the possibility that I got a sub-par clutch from the factory, probably did my clutch in. If you drive well, your 6 speed may be just fine with the stock clutch. I would save up for a clutch just to be safe, though. Good luck. The combination you are going with is a really sweet towing combo, also.

As far as the driving of a diesel powered truck... it's my first personal truck, but I've been driving diesel powered trucks since before I was legally able to do so. Growing up on a farm you bend the driving laws a bit. Plus, I've only ever owned or operated 2 maybe 3 autos, so I'm well aware of what makes clutches last. Power was the only thing I've never used to stress a clutch.

my brother has a HO six speed with a Edge Comp and he cooked his clutch pretty quick. you would have to be extremely careful with the combo that you propose because you will be right on the edge.

some hold some don't

I have a 99 6spd but it had the 5spd clutch with the 1 1/4 input shaft I ran a edge ez and 275's and comp and 275's and the clutch held I thougth rather well it took some abuse from big loads and a few slow poke runs down the 1/4 mile and a lot of 2nd gear start empty you won't know how good of a clutch you have till you do the mods and see BUT be prepared for the worse and hope for the best.

Good luck!

Craig

There seems to be a pretty wide variation in power tolerance with the stock clutches - as far as actual ratings, I've heard everything from 750-850 Ft lbs torque.

I ran an EZ for about six months with no trouble. We put the 275's in at a friends house, and I slipped it on the way home. :{ I had planned on upgrading away, but just not that quick. Some hold, others dont, mine didnt. It only slips in 5th and 6th at lower rpm if I get into it "too much". Put some money aside for a clutch, cause if it does hold, it might not last too long. Good Luck:)

I only have an Edge EZ on my 01 HO, (275's sitting on the workbench until I win the SBC in the lotto :D ) and I can (and have) slipped the clutch in 4th and 5th at around 1900 to 2200 RPMs if I step in it. I figure the stock clutch was probably already on its way, the EZ or any other HP increases is only gonna accelerate it to its death.
