I am planning to put this CTD into 78 k20 and was wondering if the stock Nippon Denso had an internal regulator. Should I switch this to an AC Delco? What would I need for brackets to do this?

no they are not , but they do sell a peice to make it work for around 40. 00 just get ahold of any good rebuild shop they should have it

The "piece" you are talking about , is that a internal regulator to fit inside of the alternator ?

You can use the stock alt , then get an external Cry. regulator from parts store , this is a 2 wire unit , maybe $20 , many have given up on finding charging problems , because the computer works as the regulator .

I faced the same delima doing my 87 one ton and decided to put the stock delco on the 5. 9 because parts avalibilty when broke down some where and what the heck it has worked perfect since 87 who am i to argue with logic? And if ever need to replace it they are 40. 00 bucks for a lifetime warr. ! I installed the dodge 8 rib pulley on to the delco and left the fan and spacer on the delco and worked great, on the mounting i made 2 plates 1'' wide 2. 5'' long and 1/4 thick with a 3/8 hole in each end and bolted it to the engine mount, for the top i stacke 5/16 washers to fill the gap. very easy to do and quick.
