how does it sound? i ordered the cat test pipe today and will be putting it in when i get it. i will also get around to putting on the fast coolers... lazy me, but might as well be under the truck only once... .

anyway, with the stock muffler still on and no cat how does it sound? im thinking i will be going to a single 5 inch stack on the pass side in a month or two with an MBPR mufler or maybe an aero turbine. thanks all for your input,

Grant

I would swap the stock muff with a free flow and leave the cat. I'm willing to bet the cat is alot less restrictive than the stock muffler.

Also since you live in Ca. I would think twice about losing the kitty.

ehh, im not worried about getting in trouble with the law about it. i agree the cat is prolly less restrictive than the muffler, it will be going soon as well.

im just curious how it will sound like that for the short time i will be running it that way.

Keep the Cat, toss the muff. Geno's offers an excellent muff elimation pipe. Fits & works great - result; super, deep, tough, sound.

ehh, both are going out... just couldnt afford both at the same time and wanted to start at the front since i will be working in that area anyway.

thanks again for the input, anyone know how it will sound?

I was planning the same thing, delete cat and muffler. On another forum one guy was saying lots of people liked it without the muffler and then didn't like it when they took the cat off as well.

So I decided to try the muffler eliminator first and if that sounds good, leave it alone. Might do the cat later. I have the genos muffler eliminator piece of pipe coming but what is this cat test pipe?

i called DPP up today. as far as i know they are the only ones who sell the cat test pipe. they had a much better price on the muffler eliminator pipe than geno's as well. i was thinking the same thing about removing the muffler first, but i know the cat will have to go so i figured i might as well do it because i might not be getting the muffler removal tube. i might just go straight to a 5 inch stack. then i would have spend 80 dollars for nothing.

Just a word of caution on going muffless with stacks... they r loud... At idle and under light acceleration they sound great on my truck but if i step down on it the stereo speakers start distorting before they even come close to drowning out the stacks yelling in my ears. . I am planning on putting my magnaflow back on soon to see how it sounds. . I am mainly trying to get rid of the higher pitched sound and keep the rumble... then again... u may not have this problem with a single 5" stack as opposed to my dual 6's. . for some reason. . these 325 engines have alot louder exhaust then the older engines... just food for thought

Being here in No. Cal they have not yet require any smog cert for diesels. Murphys law has followed me thru out my life! So I am going to replace my stock muffler with one from Diesel Perf. and leave the cat alone for now.
