Does anyone have a good way to remove a stock muffler without using a sawzall. I recently got my mbrp muffler and I'm ready to put it on. I just don't want to cut the old one off.

Make a couple of slits lengthwise on opposite sides with a die grinder. About 2-3" long at each end of the muffler where it slips over the pipes. Being carefull to cut just through the muffler and not through the pipe below. Then you can spread it just enough to slip off.

If yours is crimped by the clamp like mine was then some cutting is going to be necessary.

Use a rose bud tip on a oxy/acetylene torch. Heat it up cherry red and start wiggling it around. You will have to heat it several times, but you will get it expanded back out to get it off. Concentrate where the u-bolt has made a crease in the pipe, you need to get it back out to get it to slide off. I worked at mine for about an hour to get the cat, muffler, and tailpipe apart.

I got my muffler on today I went ahead and cut it with the sawzall then then cut the two to slits in it to remove the remaining pipe that worked good thanks Gary. I could still use the stock muffler if I had to. It felt like I had a little more power on the short test drive I made. Really pleased with the sound.
