I just bought a 96 Ram; I will be going over it this weekend. I am not sure if I have a stock plate but I am looking this weekend. My question is by moving the plate all the way fwd where should the star wheel be adjusted, and should any other adjustments be done? :D

Before I slid the plate forward, I would get a measurement from the front edge of the plate to the front edge of the pump housing. This way you can put the plate back close to its oem position if you need to. My measurement was . 156

I would leave the starwheel in its stock position. Test drive the truck. If it seems flat and slow to accellerate on the low end, turn the starwheel towards the engine. It you have black smoke when accellerating, turn the starwheel away from the engine.

Move the AFC housing all the way forward towards the front of the engine. You will see the slots are elongated.

Consider getting a good aftermarket torque plate.

You may not have to measure. The surface of the pump scribes real well. I just used a scribe & 'scratched' along the front edge of the plate, on both sides of the opening. Easy to put back to center.

Still don't know why I did that though, all of the plates have been either full forward or 3/4 of the way forward. ;)

I have some questions about the star wheel myself. How much is too much??? Will the wheel stop, or bottom out if you go toward the enjine with it all the way? Or will it unscrew completely and fall off. My plate has been slid forward, but I don't think the wheel has been moved much. Would it hurt to just turn it all the way toward the motor, I like smoke afterall. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Willie

The star wheel adjustment is a matter of personal preference. You need to find the point at which you feel low boost smoke it acceptable (maybe its not an issue for you) and low boost acceleration is acceptable.
