I know this isn't the desired method to level out the front, but there's no way I can afford the $1K for a system like Kore. Just looking for some lift to help with plow weight.

Says will work with stock shock, anyone else going this route. Does it actually work?

Lorenz 22% leveling kit.

Lorenz sells a leveling kit which would address your issues. His kit is only $565 which includes 22% stiffer coils(for your setup),two extra length Bilstein 5100's and some swaybar drop blocks. You're all set. LORENZindustries - Dodge Performance Suspension. Contact him and he'll get back to you within 24 hrs. I'm running the 22% coils for my constant camper weight. Nice. The spacers and lousy stock shocks aren't going to help you.

When I first had my Tuff Country leveling kit installed I went about 4 years on the stock shocks. I will tell you though, I never haul anything heavy but when I switched to Bilstein 5100's this summer I noticed a huge difference in handling. So if it were me I would do shocks at the same time if you plan on installing a plow.

Fwiw I just installed the black/silver Bilsteins from Genos and they are listed for trucks with up to 2" of lift. The stock shocks were the same length as the Bilstiens. I do have the snow plow prep option and don’t know if your stock shocks would be shorter. My shocks had 65K and there was not much difference after installing the Bilsteins.

Maybe call around to see what stock snow plow prep springs cost and if they are not too pricy just throw a set in. If you belong to any clubs, see if some of the local dealers give member discounts. Some dealers around here give 10% or 15% above cost, which is a huge discount over the inflated list prices. If you go with the springs remember to crank the caster cams to the 12 o’clock position.

Thanks for all the info. I just might wait and see how it feels with the plow on w/out any modifications. The plow isn't gonna be on the truck 24/7 all winter long... ... at least I hope not:eek:

If this is for the 04. 5 you have in your sig I would recommend upgrading the springs and shocks. It is my understanding that you can not get the plow prep package on a quad cab long bed because the wheel base is to long and it would in turn be putting to much wait on the front suspension. Note that the reason is not that the suspension cant handle the weight but simple because it is just not safe.

It is also my understanding that the only purpose for the plow prep is to give the proper equipment to trucks without other packages that might include the skid plates, heavy duty cooling, alternator, etc... etc...

It is further my understanding that the suspension is the same across the board from the 2500 to the 3500 (except overload springs) whether you have the plow prep package or not.

What would be unsafe? Running a plow with stock suspension or running a plow on a QC LB?
After further research I found that KORE offers an affordable leveling kit,$385,
with HD springs but not sure they are stiff enough for the plow?
Lorenz costs a bit more but offers a 22% stiffer then stock spring.

Would be great to get feedback if anyone is running those leveling kits and a plow! Thanks James

You will love Lorenz shocks and spings. He is a great guy, A lot less negative feedback than KORE.

Can you explain that? If it is not the weight then how is it unsafe? I think you’ll find that the main issue with plows on quad cab long bed CTDs is that they will easily go over the FGAWR of 5,200 lbs.

Remember that the plow’s weight sits out at least 4 feet in front of the front axle and will lever weight off the rear axle onto the front, so the load on the front axle is more than just the weight of the plow. An SLT QC long bed has 4,358 lbs on the front axle empty. Add 500 lb of plow weight (plow, hydraulics, mounting brackets, etc) at 4' from the front axle and 300 lbs in the cab and you're right at 5,200 lbs. If the plow sits further out or is heavier, then you're over! Check out the Dodge upfitters website for more specific details and charts.

Can you confirm your information that all the springs are the same? I recently found a parts listing which had 27 different part numbers for front coil springs for 2005 2500 & 3500 4x4 trucks! Seems like way too many if they are indeed all the same.

JKloppe, looks good. What does your plow assembly weigh in at? It sits nice and level with the blade up. Do you have any counterweight in the bed behind the rear axle? Was the 7. 5' without the wings too narrow for the truck?

I ran the stock shocks with 2" spacers for quite awhile. I just recently upgraded to the Bilsteins. I didn't really notice much difference empty. With the toy hauler on the back, the shocks helped with the porpoising. Otherwise, I liked the stock shocks and the way they rode. Scotty

It's funny how some don't really notice a difference and others just rave about the upgraded shocks and springs.

I'd like to hear from others with a plow and stock shock and spacers.

Plow with mount and wings 930lbs

Yes there is extra weight in the bed, 70 gal fuel, tool box, 800lbs of sand.

The plow by itself is to narrow when you are in a big empty parking lot with only a few inches. With the Boss wings it is a little over 9' and that gets more done. We had a record snow a couple of years ago (30+ inches) that shut down most truck plows but I was going strong without the wings. I only plow in 4low to get early lock up to keep transmission cool at all times, I never see 200 in the hot line plowing.
