The chrome clad steel wheels are awlful for driving in mud. because of the way they are made, there is a trough between the front chome piece that you see from the outside and the center internal structure of the wheel. I was wheeling through mud and cow pies on the last pre- scouting trip and the gunk just packed this center space! Small pebbles and rocks were lodgerd in here too! Took quite a bit of hosing to clean this out. I can see where driving in snow may do the same thing and then freeze! I could envision this throwing the wheels off balance at high speeds.

Stock steel wheel may be OK for on- raod driving where there is no snow, but I have found them to not suit my needs and will likely be shopping for new 1 pc. aluminum ones.

Just my opinion after 1 weekend of off- roading.

Are these similar to the wheel skins on my dually? I'm not sure I can picture the wheels you are describing..... since virtually all of the SRW trucks I see have aluminum wheels.

I think the whole truck itself sucks off-road personally, but the factory wheels and tires certainly add to the problem. I have noticed that it seems to throw an abnormal amount of rocks and dirt but I always figured it was only the tires.

The stock chrom-clad wheels are horrible in the mud. If you happen to let the mud dry in the wheels, like I did, its almost impossible to fully clean the wheels without removal.

With mud in there, it almost makes the truck undrivable at highway speeds - extreme vibration; ultimately this was the reason I opted for aftermarket aluminum wheels.

hehe, That big ol' hunk of engine sinks the front end in mud like a tank...

Certainly not like wheelin' in a CJ

I miss big snow falls like that. Don't get anything like that here in the Anchorage area.

The 2nd gen wheels are the same. Let's say you get water in the groove, go through a puddle or whatever, then it freezes... talk about unbalanced wheels.
