I have a 2001 4x4 that's all pretty much stock. My dealer says that the slipping in my transmission can be fixed by re-flashing the dodge portion only of the computer that runs that part of the transmission. Does that make any sense to anybody?

Elyost:

If he is doing a reflash, (Which I doubt) He is Detuning The engine to run at a lower Horsepower  That is the only way to fix a transmission by flashing the computer.

Sounds like he should rebuild the transmission to me

In talking further with the service tech. he says there's aTSB on the slipping and if need be they will replace the valve body upper housing seporator plate. Does that sound right?

What are your symptoms??? Could you describe what your trans is doing?

Look at the trans TSB's that involve modifying your seperator plate and it will explain more about what it is suppose to fix. Oo.

I had mine reflashed, but my torque converter was not locking up. It fixed the problem. It also changed how my transmission shifts. It does not shift into 3rd so fast anymore, it winds out 1st to about 20 mph, then 2nd to 30. I like it much better.

Another thing, my cruise has not worked right since day one, 113,000 miles ago. The dealer worked on it five times and couldnt get it right. When the transmission was reflashed, the cruise began working perfectly. This work was done at 109,000 miles and everything is still working.

The symptoms are;in warm to hot outside temps,(I live inArizona)the transmission will slip in between 3rd and 4th gears around 40-50 mph. In easy to mild acceleration. It doesn't do it in heavy acceleration.

What are your RPM's???

If your RPM's are too low (say 1400 - 1500) you are lugging the engine. With the low RPM's the transmission line pressures are too low for the transmission to lock up and then it will cause it to inherently slip.

Read This Thread.

This could be the cause of the problem (which is not really a problem) Keep the truck out of overdrive until at least 50 mph.

See if that does the trick.
