Ok,

Been looking at the Glacier Diesel 2 micron filter setups. As the title states, my truck is stock and it will be for the time being. That said, with the stock in-tank lift pump and stock CP3, which kit do I need from Glacier Diesel to achieve the 2 micron fuel filter set up?

Thanks in advance,

Diesel Thunder.

I would be concerned about whether or not the stock pump is capable of pushing enough fuel through a 2 micron filter to still feed the truck under load.

My 06 has the 2 micron GDP big line kit and the before and after pressure drop is no less than a 1-2 psi drop since the GDP kit was installed.

BTW the lowest pressure I have seen is 7. 5 at WFO with an Edge Juice/Attitude on level 3 "60 hp setting".

I'm running the stock tank pump for now, hope this helps!

Go with the big line kit. You'll have the ability to mod if you so choose at a later date. That's what I did cuz I know the draw for more power will eventually suck me in :D

9lbs at idle and 7 at wide open...

Ok, so it sounds like there should be no problems with using the 2 micron kit with the stock pump. I was planning on the big line kit as well. However, how are you guys monitoring your fuel pressure, before and after the 2 micron? Thanks in advance.

I've got the 2-micron with the big line kit, saw about 1# pressure loss after the install. I have the Zillaraider STD and while I don't go WOT I have 7-8#'s pressure. I've got the tap for the fuel pressure after the 2-micron filter before the CP3.

stock canister w/7-micron filter > 2-micron filter [ FP tap ] > CP3

I did not get the water separation because I live in a dry climate that has little to no problems with water in the fuel. If I lived where it was a problem then I would have considered it/got it.

Since I already have the Optix gauges, I will be adding a fuel pressure gauge, but does the glacier 2 micron with big line kit have a means to tap into the pressure after the 2 micron filter? Also, I change my factory fuel filter every 10K, what are the intervals for the 2 micron filter? Or are you guys using a certain "low pressure indication" on your fuel pressure gauge to know when its time for service? Thanks in advance.

GDP gives you an adapter that you just cut the hose and put it where you want and secure it with the hose clamps provided. You can put it before or after the 2 micron filter what ever you want to put it.

About when to change will be a judgement call and no doubt will vary with

various people :)

In my case, I installed the MK-2 before I installed the walbro 391. I noticed

about 1/2 psi drop (went from 7 to 6. 5) at idle. I would think that a range

of 1 to 2 psi drop from there would be a good indicator when to change filter.

On the otherhand with the Walbro installed I'm running between 16 -> 16. 5

and I just changed my STOCK filter today with 5800 mi and noticed no change

in pressure. My MK-2 has 8400 mi on it so I'll be watching my guage and if

it drops around 2psi from 16 I think I'll probably change it.

If after a year from installation it hasn't dropped 2 psi I'll probably change

it anyway but I don't know how that's going to work out. One load of dirty

fuel could change everything.

Is it worth puting in the walbro pump, even though everything else is stock? Are there any consequences to puting a higher pressure to the CP3, even though the performance requirements of the engine are not demanding it?

The people that seem to know say there is absolutely no problem. This is being

done every day.

Some people with high performance rigs are running much higher pressures

using the FASS and Walbro systems as an example.

One thing to keep in mind is for us 'average owners' it is not about pressure so

much as volume. You can't have pressure unless there is volume and since we

cannot read volume, (without expensive flowmeters), we need to see pressure.

According to everything I have read the CP3 just needs a positive pressure under

ALL operating conditions. That means those that are towing heavy loads up steep

hills and sled pulling , requiring lots of fuel will need a pump capable of

maintaining a positive pressure while delivering higher volume.

The stock pump simply will not do this and some of us simply do not trust the

stock pump. According to these forums, some stock pumps have lasted 100,000+

miles, and some closer to 10,000 mi. So we make our choices based on peace of

mind.

I wouldn't try to 'push' these higher perfomance pumps on others as it could

sometimes affect their warrantee, depending on their dealer.

There exists TONS of reading on this if you care to research it further and I

encourage you to do so.

Good luck in your decision.

The majority of pumps failures are the filter mounted models like mine. 04. 5. I have a gauge and have been using Power service and MMO since the second tank. No problems. Not many in tank pump failures 05-07.
