I have a 06 mega and I have been looking at my stock turbo boost. At WOT I can see 34psi. the truck is new and has no mods yet, except gages. Everything I have been reading said I should have 22-24 psi stock. Will the smarty give me more pressure, can the head gasket take it? I am about ready to buy one and I want to make sure it works for my truck.

My stock 04. 5 would see a peak of about 32-34. Depending on the Smarty SW it won't change that.

I have run a SW that let me see 43+.

Your head gasket should take 45+ as long as it's warm when you do it.

What would be the advantage of the smartys boost fooling. I thought that codes where tripped with the higher boost. why do some trucks have the boost limited. ?

I was hping to have the EGT's cooled with smarty. I can see 1100* post turbo with everything stock. I pull a 14,000# 5er. I don't care about hotroding, I just wanted to improve towing.

How does your truck handle the toy hauler? That is a pretty big trailer and pretty heavy, how do you think the 35's affect your performance? I imagine the smarty will get you some power back. Anyhow, I would like to know how your truck performs with that trailer and what kind of trailer it is. Thanks. Scotty

1,100°F post turbo?????????? That seems hot to me. The turbo takes out 300-500°F, depending on who you talk to, so even on the low side, 1,100°F post turbo equals 1,400°F pre-turbo!!!

I'm sure the newer CTD can take higher EGTs than the earlier ones, but doesn't aluminum melt around 1,500°F?

Pulling a long grade loaded heavy, I'll back off at 1,250°F pre-turbo.

The trailer is a 32' forrest river. It was the only 5er that I could fit my unlimited rubicon inside. It pulls good, the only thing is the hills make for slow going. I don't push it too hard and I am not usualy in a hurry so it is not a big deal. The egt's have me worried, The truck is stock except for the gages and I have modified the stock air box. I have been looking at the smarty for towing and for beter mpg. Most of the time we are empty, the truck is our family car.

If I use propane will that lower my egt's? I have herd from some that it does and some say it doesnt.

Propane can work quite well but it is really hard on HG's. I would go with a Smarty if all your looking for is a little more power and boost fooling.

If your stock you are pushing 1400-1500 pre-turbo on the EGT's. These trucks seem to take it but that is pushing the limit.

IIRC, the boost fooling on the Smarty is all on the programs for aftermarket turbo/injectors. The lower limits may work ok but have not tried that tune yet. I am using a Quad boost fooler with the smarty on SW4 and it takes a long steep grade in OD to push the temps over 1200 towing a 12k load. I can routinely hit 40-42 psi and have seen as much as 200 degrees drop in EGT's. If you are satisfied with the power you might try the Quad fooler and see if that will give you the desired results.

Your combo of tires and wheels is going to cause some issues and is really hard on the stock trans. Just stop and go driving has a bad result of tearing up the clutches. Add that load and slower speeds and it is at the limit of taking the power. I would hesitate to add much if any power at this point until you address the trans with at least a VB and line pressure increase.

The Smarty is a great addition but I would be very nervous running much over the minimum power settings and using the aftermarket parts tune would really cause concern.

My . 02 :)

I've only had the Smarty for a month. Towed through the mountains last weekend. EGT's were down 2-300deg's. Towing the Jeep, trailer and bed (w/canopy) full of stuff I never left 6th gear. I also never hit 1000deg while doing 60-70mph. Friend with 12v towing alot less than me with the stock plate slide forward spent some time over 1000deg. I've towed through this area before and previously had no problem hitting 1200deg. All temps are pre-turbo. Both gauges are dual Westach's.

I also have 83hp DDP injectors, homemade airbox mod with stock Fleetguard air filter. So far I've only used the software shipped with the Smarty set to SW#3. I'll know alot more in late August. We're towing to the Rubicon.
